Giro Factor Techlace Cycling Shoes Info
Giro believes in laces. The Factor Techlace Cycling shoes combine the precision of laces with a Boa dial, so that those who like the better fit and prefer being able to adjust their shoes while they’re riding.
Before getting to the lacing system, a few words about the rest of the shoe. The shoe is built with their Easton EC90 SLX2 Carbon Fiber sole. This is thin, light, and stiff, with markings by the three-bolt mounts so that you can carefully and repeatedly set your cleats. The improvement from the first iteration to the second is most notably the replaceable heel pads. These are softer and easier to walk on than the first version, and being able to replace them means that those for whom some duck-footing is essential, they can walk in confidence.
The upper has been improved as well. They have stayed with their supplier, Teijin, for this microfiber material, but they went with a more supple fabric. This one is 1.1mm thick, which helps the upper wrap more precisely and more comfortably around your foot, while still being as resistant to stretching as before.
The big change is the Techlace system. You see laces. You see Velcro straps. The two work in concert. The laces are threaded through the upper, and then join at the strap. You pull the strap and the laces tighten. You put the strap down on its mate, and they’re secured. The strap part has a hidden coupler. The lace aglets (aka ends) snap into the coupler and stay put. With this system, you can replace the laces if they break, or if they’re too long.
The final part is the Boa dial. This is Boa’s IP-1. you can tighten it by turning in one direction, loosen it by going the other. Each click equals 1mm of travel. If you need to quickly release, pull the dial up and all resistance will disappear.
All this in a shoe weighing 210g in a 42.5.
The Giro Factor Techlace Cycling Shoes make laces more adjustable.
