LOOK Bicycles History...

Discover the rich heritage of LOOK Bikes, a brand synonymous with innovation and technological excellence in the cycling world. Founded in 1951 in Nevers, France, LOOK initially specialized in manufacturing ball bladders, frames, and components for high-end racing bikes. The company's trajectory changed dramatically when founder Jean Beyl, an avid skier, sought to improve ski safety after a personal accident. His invention of the "anti-fracture" plated ski binding not only revolutionized skiing but also laid the groundwork for future innovations in cycling technology.

In 1983, under the ownership of the Bernard Tapie Sport group, LOOK underwent a significant transformation. The brand recruited cycling legend Bernard Hinault and adopted a new visual identity inspired by the artwork of Piet Mondrian. This era marked the introduction of the PP65, the first automatic pedal for cycling, adapted from ski binding concepts to offer unparalleled security and performance. Hinault tested this groundbreaking pedal during the 1985 Tour de France; despite a severe crash, he credited the PP65 with preventing more serious injury and went on to win the race that year.

LOOK continued to pioneer carbon technology with the release of the KG 86 in 1986, the first carbon frame incorporating Kevlar for enhanced stiffness and handling. This innovation played a crucial role in Greg LeMond'svictory at the Tour de France that same year. The momentum of innovation carried into the 1990s with the development of the KG 196, the first monobloc carbon frame, and the introduction of adjustable pedals like the PP286 and PP76, enhancing rider comfort and performance.

Throughout its history, LOOK has been associated with numerous professional victories and technological milestones. The brand supplied bikes that led Luc Leblanc to a World Championship in 1994 and supported Laurent Jalabert in multiple classic wins and grand tour jerseys. In the realm of track cycling, LOOK's KG296 PKV carbon frames contributed to six medals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

Entering the new millennium, LOOK launched the KEO pedal series, including the revolutionary KEO 2 MAX and KEO BLADE, further cementing its reputation for innovation. The company received the INPI Trophy for Innovation twice, recognizing its commitment to advancing cycling technology. Notable achievements include the development of the 695 Aerolight and 795 Aerolight bikes, which integrated cutting-edge aerodynamics and carbon technology, earning awards like the Eurobike Award and the IF Design Award.

In recent years, LOOK unveiled the 796 Monoblade, pushing the boundaries of time trial and triathlon bike design with extreme integration and aerodynamics. Embracing the future of cycling, the brand introduced its first electric-assist bike in 2019 in collaboration with Fazua, combining performance with modern e-bike technology.

Today, LOOK Bikes continues to lead the industry with its relentless pursuit of innovation, blending tradition with a forward-thinking approach. From pioneering automatic pedals to crafting some of the most aerodynamic bikes in the world, LOOK remains dedicated to enhancing the performance and experience of cyclists at every level.
