The Cervelo S5 Red AXS Bike is the most refined version of Cervélo’s flagship aero road platform — the bike Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert have used at the highest level of the sport. The current generation of the S5 improves aerodynamic efficiency by more than 6 watts over its predecessor while reducing overall weight by 124 grams, changes that Cervélo achieved through deeper fork legs, a refined head tube profile, and optimized carbon layup and hardware throughout the frameset. This SRAM Red AXS build arrives with a power meter already in the crankset, ceramic bearings in the bottom bracket, and the Reserve 57|64 asymmetric wheelset that was co-developed with Reserve specifically for this generation of the S5.

The frame is carbon monocoque, anchored by Cervélo’s All-Carbon Bayonet S5 fork — the structure that changed most significantly in this generation, with deeper fork legs that work in aerodynamic concert with the Reserve 57TA and 64TA wheel profiles. The current generation cleaned up the aerodynamics in a meaningful way: the deeper fork legs changed how air behaves at the front of the bike, and the Reserve 57|64 wheels were designed alongside the frame to work as a system rather than as separate components. That kind of integration doesn’t happen on most production bikes.

The SRAM Red AXS build is strong. Power meter included in the crankset, ceramic DUB BBright bottom bracket, SRAM Paceline X rotors, Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR tires. The 50/37 chainrings and 10-33 cassette are SRAM’s preferred road setup and it works well — close ratios in the middle of the range where you spend most of your time, a useful bailout gear at the bottom. We don’t feel the need to change anything on a Red AXS S5 out of the box.

The HB19 Plus-Four cockpit takes getting used to if you haven’t ridden a narrow-hood setup before, but the fit logic is sound. Narrower up top when you’re in the aero position, wider on the drops when you need stability. The nine bar-stem combinations mean most riders can find the right fit without adapting an incompatible setup.
