Yeti ASR T2 Bike Info
The ASR is Yeti’s dedicated XC race machine — TURQ-Series carbon, 115mm of suspension, and the lightest full-suspension frame in their history. The Yeti ASR T2 Bike puts that frame and its complete RockShox SID Ultimate suspension package under a more accessible build spec without changing anything that matters to how the bike actually rides. The zero-redundant-carbon construction, size-specific layup tuning, hollow-carbon pivot design, flex stay suspension architecture, and internal TwistLoc routing are all identical to the top-tier build. Where the T2 differs is in the drivetrain and wheels: SRAM X01 Eagle mechanical shifting and DT Swiss XM1700 alloy wheels instead of wireless AXS electronics and carbon race wheels. The result is a $7,200 entry into one of the best XC race frames available.
Yeti’s TURQ-Series carbon is the top designation in their lineup, and the ASR represents their most ambitious carbon engineering project to date. Rather than building in material for safety margin, Yeti worked from single-ply carbon layups with custom ply shapes and precision-cut sheets at every part of the frame. Pivot structures are hollowed out to remove weight without compromising bearing life, and each frame size is tuned independently for torsional stiffness and flex profile — so a rider on an XS gets the same ride character as a rider on an XL. The SL Rocker Link, machined from billet 7075 aluminum alloy, continues that weight discipline into the suspension linkage. None of this differs between the T2, T3, or any other ASR build level.
The suspension spec is equally uncompromised. Fork and shock are both RockShox SID Ultimate 3P components, running Yeti’s TwistLoc lockout integration internally through the frame. The ASR’s near-linear leverage rate keeps pedaling efficiency high through the mid-stroke where XC racers spend most of their time, while the last quarter of travel ramps up to handle harder hits without deflecting the bike off line. At 115mm, this isn’t long-travel trail bike territory — it’s a suspension system optimized for XC racing that happens to have enough capability for technical terrain. The Fox Transfer SL Performance Elite dropper runs 125mm on XS and S frames, 150mm on medium through XL, fitting within the ASR’s uninterrupted shorter seat tube design.
Design Benefits
- SRAM X01 Eagle Drivetrain — X01 Eagle is a proven 12-speed mechanical drivetrain that’s been the benchmark for XC and trail riding for years. Cable-actuated shifting is reliable, easy to service in the field, and preferred by many racers who don’t want to manage batteries. The 10-52T cassette handles every climbing grade the ASR will encounter.
- DT Swiss XM1700 Wheels — The XM1700 alloy wheels are durable, tubeless-compatible, and built around quality DT Swiss internals. They’re heavier than carbon race wheels but significantly more resistant to damage on technical terrain or training rides — a genuine advantage for riders who push hard on rough courses and aren’t racing on carbon.
- RockShox SID Ultimate 3P Suspension — The SID Ultimate 3P fork and SIDLuxe Ultimate 3P shock are the same components specced on Yeti’s top-tier ASR builds. The 3P designation indicates Predictive Steering compliance — the fork maintains its geometry under braking load. TwistLoc internal routing means locking out is a single wrist twist, which matters on sustained fire-road climbs.
- Maxxis Rekon / Rekon Race Tires — The Rekon up front provides aggressive traction for cornering and loose terrain. The faster-rolling Rekon Race in the rear reduces rolling resistance without giving up the grip you need for rear-wheel traction on climbs. This is one of the most common XC race tire pairings for good reason.
- Full TURQ-Series Frame Package — The T2 build spec doesn’t change a single detail of the frame, suspension kinematics, geometry, or integration features. Integrated rear fender, dual water bottle mounts, Hangerless Interface, custom pivot-mounted chainguide mount, and the size-specific carbon layup — all present. The build is different; the bike is the same.
Final Take
The Yeti ASR T2 is the right call for riders who want Yeti’s best XC race frame and are comfortable with mechanical shifting or planning to upgrade later. The $3,400 gap between this and the T3 comes down almost entirely to wireless electronics and carbon wheels. The frame, suspension, geometry, and cockpit are identical. If those specific upgrades aren’t your priority, the T2 is the more rational way into the ASR.
