Wilier Filante SLR ID2 Force AXS Bike Info

The Wilier Filante SLR ID2 Force AXS Bike is Wilier Triestina's flagship aerodynamic race machine — the product of over a century of Italian framebuilding knowledge and a direct development partnership with the Groupama-FDJ United WorldTour team. The ID2 designation marks the second generation of the Filante SLR platform, and the improvements are measured with tunnel and data: 13.1% less drag on the bike alone, 5.22% less drag with rider at 50 km/h, and 4.91% fewer watts required to hold 40 km/h compared to the previous generation. The frame weight — 860g in Size M — held flat while everything around it got faster.

Wilier engineered those gains without the usual aero-bike trade-off of sacrificing stiffness for drag reduction. Bottom bracket stiffness actually increased 7.49% in the ID2 over the original Filante SLR, a result of refined tube shaping and the HUS MOD+ Crystal Liquid Polymer carbon construction used throughout the monocoque frame and fork. The Wilier Custom Bearings Superslim headset keeps the front end clean and minimal. Full internal cable routing routes all cables through the frame and integrated cockpit, eliminating every external line that costs speed and breaks the bike's silhouette. Geometry is designed for outright race performance: aggressive reach, progressive stack heights across six sizes, and a short 411–413mm chainstay that keeps the handling sharp and direct at race pace.

The F-Bar ID2 integrated cockpit is the defining front-end feature. It's a one-piece carbon bar and stem designed specifically for the Filante SLR ID2, with all cables entering through the bar internally and Garmin and Wahoo computer mounts built in. SRAM Force AXS E1 wireless electronic shifting handles the drivetrain — 2x12-speed, with a 48/35 crankset and 10-33T cassette giving you a range that covers criterium racing and mountain stages without changing equipment. SRAM's Force AXS braking — hydraulic disc, SRAM Paceline 160mm rotors — delivers consistent modulation in the conditions that matter. Miche Kleos 50 Carbon wheels roll underneath, a 50mm depth carbon rim that pairs the aerodynamic depth of a dedicated race wheel with the versatility to handle crosswind days without a fight.

Design Benefits

  1. ID2 aerodynamic evolution — measured, not claimed: Wilier published direct tunnel comparisons between the ID1 and ID2. The numbers hold up: 13.1% less drag on the bike alone, 5.22% less combined with rider at 0° yaw, and a real-world result of saving 1 minute 45 seconds over 70km at 290W. These gains come from refined tube shaping, improved airflow integration between frame and cockpit, and the F-Bar ID2's seamless junction with the head tube — no seams, no gaps, no wasted frontal area.
  2. HUS MOD+ Crystal Liquid Polymer carbon construction: The Filante SLR ID2 frame and fork are built from Wilier's HUS MOD+ carbon with Crystal Liquid Polymer matrix — a high-performance construction that achieves the 860g frame weight while delivering the 7.49% increase in BB stiffness over the original Filante SLR. That combination of low weight and increased stiffness is what allows the ID2 to feel genuinely fast under hard pedaling rather than just fast in a straight line.
  3. F-Bar ID2 integrated cockpit: The one-piece carbon F-Bar ID2 is purpose-designed for this frame — not a generic integrated cockpit fitted to an aero platform. Full internal routing enters through the bar, all lines disappear into the head tube, and the computer mount for Garmin or Wahoo is built directly into the top of the bar. The result is a cockpit that's aerodynamically coherent from bar tip to seat tube.
  4. SRAM Force AXS E1 wireless electronic shifting: Force AXS delivers clean, reliable wireless shifting without the mechanical cable complexity that undermines fully integrated frames. The 48/35 chainring setup and 10-33T cassette span a range appropriate for competitive road riding — enough high gear for flat-out speed, enough low gear for sustained climbing in a race context. The hydraulic disc setup gives you Shimano-competitive braking modulation without the weight of a dedicated mechanical caliper system.
  5. Miche Kleos 50 Carbon wheels: The 50mm carbon rim depth places the Kleos 50 in the performance aero category — deep enough to matter in crosswind conditions and on flat-to-rolling terrain, manageable enough to handle in varying conditions without becoming a liability. Miche is an Italian wheel manufacturer with a long history in road and track, and the Kleos 50 pairs naturally with the Vittoria Corsa Pro 700x28 tires for a fast, low-rolling-resistance road setup.

Final Take

The Filante SLR ID2 is an Italian WorldTour-developed aero race bike with tunnel-verified performance gains, a fully integrated carbon cockpit, and a specification that doesn't ask you to compromise on either speed or function. If you're buying an aero road bike at this level, the Wilier Filante SLR ID2 earns its place among the best race platforms available — and the Force AXS build delivers the drivetrain performance to match the frame.

The RA Perspective

The Filante SLR ID2 is one of the more honest aero bikes we've seen come through — Wilier published the tunnel numbers directly, and those numbers are real. A 13.1% reduction in bike-only drag and nearly 5% less drag with rider are significant improvements from one generation to the next, especially considering the frame weight didn't change. That's not easy to achieve, and it tells you Wilier didn't just refresh the paint and call it an ID2.

What stands out in person is how complete the integration feels. The F-Bar ID2 cockpit isn't an afterthought — it's clearly designed alongside the frame, and the transition from bar to head tube is seamless in a way that most integrated cockpit bikes don't quite achieve. All cables disappear, the computer mount is built in, and nothing sticks out that shouldn't.

The SRAM Force AXS build is well-matched to this frame. Wireless shifting suits a fully integrated aero platform better than any mechanical setup — no cables to route through the cockpit, no housing to manage. The 48/35 with a 10-33 cassette is a road racer's gearing range, not a tour setup, which matches what this bike is for.

One thing worth noting: the Vittoria Corsa Pro 700x28 tires are fast but on the narrower side for everyday training. If you're riding this as your primary bike across mixed conditions, a 30mm tire on the same rim is a reasonable swap. The max clearance is 34mm, so you have room. For race days and fast group rides, the 28s are exactly right.

The Groupama-FDJ development story isn't marketing — you can see it in the details. This is a race bike designed by people who win races.
