The SRAM S-990 Aero Brake Lever is built for bullhorn and base bar setups — the kind of handlebars you find on triathlon and time trial bikes — and it solves a problem that riders on integrated aero frames know well. As brake calipers get buried deeper into frames and forks, the standard barrel adjuster becomes nearly unreachable. The S-990 moves that adjustment to the lever itself.
With a 2mm hex key, you can loosen the lever body and rotate it around the bar — clockwise or counterclockwise — to dial in cable tension directly at the source. It functions like a barrel adjuster, except the barrel is also the lever's pivot point. On bikes where the caliper adjuster is hidden or inaccessible, this makes cable tension adjustments straightforward rather than a contortion act. The lever blade is carbon, the whole assembly weighs 112g, and an expander plug with an integrated cable routing hole handles bar-end installation cleanly.
