SRAM GX Eagle Chain Info
The only chains that will work with twelve-speed 1x shifting systems are those specifically designed to work with the tight spacing 12 cogs necessitates. SRAM’s GX Eagle Chain is a workhorse that does the job without calling attention to it.
The big thing about shifting over twelve cogs is that the chain needs to be wide enough to fit onto a cog, but not so wide as to be grazing another. To accomplish this, SRAM designed the Eagle chains so that the pins are flush with the outer plates. On the GX version, the pins are solid, a less expensive, arguably more efficient choice.
The outer plates are Silver with a Nickel treatment, the inner plates Black, and the pins are Chromed. It looks good. The inner plates have no square edges, a bit of work, but makes for better, faster, quieter shifting. It also allows for a flatter outer plate, which itself strengthen the chain.
SRAM includes an Eagle-specific PowerLock master link. As with all PowerLocks, this is a single-use application.
The SRAM GX Eagle Chain weighs 258g for the uncut 114-link length.
