SRAM eTap Blip Info
SRAM’s Blips give you even greater convenience and ease of eTap shifting.
Blips are essentially shift buttons. They are wired. Push the Blip and a signal is sent through the wire to the eTap shifter broadcast unit, be it inside a drop bar brake lever or in a Blip Box master controller. And then the signal is sent to shift the derailleur.
Each eTap drop bar brake lever has room for up to two Blips plugged into it. The ports come covered with plugs. You’ll find them by peeling back the rubber hood and using a small hook to fish the plug out, and then plug in the Blip. And the Blips will just repeat the action of the lever. So if the lever moves the derailleur inboard, the blip will do the same. If you’ve got a time trial or tri’ rig, you’ll need a Blip Box, and that can take up to four Blips, two for moving the derailleur inboard, two for outboard.
The Blips can be placed anywhere you want, provided the wire is long enough to reach the shifter. This is why they come in four sizes, 150mm (6g), 230mm (7g), 450mm (8g), and 650mm (9g).
The shortest size is probably best for people who want a “sprint” button on their drops. Some will prefer to have their index finger doing the shifting, some their thumb. The next size is probably best for people who want to run a button on the tops so it’s easy to shift from there while climbing. Here, people have been known to put it underneath or in the back of the exposed center section, while others run it underneath their bar tape. The longest two lengths are probably best for base bars and aero extensions: it’s great to have the flexibility to place it just where you want. This goes for the time trial fiend who never wants to waver from her tuck to the person who has hand issues and has trouble shifting with certain fingers. But these are just based on what has been done thusfar. The beauty of Blips is they can be placed just about anywhere you need them.
Blips help make SRAM’s eTap shifting even easier, even more convenient.
