Shimano 11-Speed Chain Pins Info
The Shimano 11-Speed Chain Pins are the traditional method for joining an 11-speed Shimano chain, sold three to a pack. Each pin uses a tapered guide end to pilot into the chain's side plate holes, then is pressed fully through with a chain tool until centered and flush on both sides. Once seated, the guide stub snaps off cleanly at a pre-scored perforation. A chain tool is required for installation — the pin cannot be seated by hand — and Shimano recommends the TL-CN34 or TL-CN28 for this job.
These pins are strictly single-use. The installation process flares the pin in place; removing it compromises the side plate hole and leaves a structurally weakened link. If you ever need to shorten or re-open a chain joined with one of these pins, break it at a different link — never at the previously pinned location. Part number Y0AH98030 is compatible with Shimano's full lineup of 11-speed road chains: the CN-HG601 (105-level), CN-HG701 (Ultegra-level), and CN-HG901 (Dura-Ace-level), covering every Shimano 11-speed road group from R7000 through R9150. Not compatible with 10-speed or 12-speed chains.
