Scott Spark 920 TR Bike Info
The Scott Spark 920 TR Bike is built on one of mountain biking's most recognized XC platforms — but with a purpose that goes beyond the race course. The "TR" designation separates this from the Spark RC, Scott's WorldTour cross-country race machine, and repositions the Spark around more travel, more trail capability, and a geometry tuned for riders who want speed without sacrificing confidence when the terrain turns technical. With 130mm of front travel and 120mm at the rear, the Spark TR covers more ground than a pure XC race bike, and it does it on the same HMF carbon front triangle that defines the Spark platform. The 920 variant pairs that front triangle with a 6011 alloy swingarm — lightweight and stiff carbon where it has the greatest effect on pedaling performance, durable alloy where the swingarm takes the brunt of trail riding. At $5,499, this is where the Spark TR becomes accessible without compromising what makes the platform work.
The frame is built around Scott's Integrated Suspension Technology (IST), which positions the FOX Nude 5T EVOL rear shock inside the main triangle rather than mounting it externally. This lowers the bike's center of gravity, shields the shock from direct debris impact, and makes rear shock service cleaner when adjustments are needed. The frame adds full internal cable routing, a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) interface for current and future drivetrain compatibility, and integrated frame protection at high-contact wear areas. Geometry isn't fixed: the Syncros/Acros headset includes a built-in head angle adjustment system that allows ±0.6° of rotation — slacker for more stability on technical descents, steeper for the quick, reactive handling XC terrain rewards. The head tube angle starts at 65.8°, and the chainstay holds at 437.5mm across all four sizes, keeping handling character consistent from S through XL regardless of where the reach scales.
TwinLoc: One Lever, Three Modes
Scott's TwinLoc 2 suspension control system is the feature that makes this platform genuinely versatile across different kinds of riding. A single handlebar-mounted remote lever adjusts the FOX 34 Float Performance fork, the FOX Nude 5T rear shock, and frame geometry simultaneously — no reaching for individual damper controls mid-ride. Lockout mode firms up both ends for efficient pedaling on smooth climbs and road transitions. Traction Control mode opens the rear to 80mm of travel while keeping the fork stiffer, which optimizes power transfer and grip on variable terrain where you need traction without sacrificing drive. Descend mode opens everything fully — 130mm front, 120mm rear — for maximum compliance and control when the trail turns technical. The TwinLoc remote also handles dropper post actuation, so saddle height, fork damping, rear shock damping, and geometry are all within reach of the left hand. On a bike designed to move quickly between climbing, XC singletrack, and trail descents, that consolidation makes a real operational difference.
Drivetrain and Build
The drivetrain is SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission — 12-speed wireless electronic shifting on SRAM's updated Transmission architecture, which eliminates traditional B-gap adjustment and mates the derailleur directly to a splined freehub interface. A 32T chainring and a 10-52T cassette provide the range to handle sustained climbs and fast flat sections without compromise. SRAM DB8 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm HS2 rotors deliver the stopping power this bike's trail-capable geometry actually demands. The wheel package is Syncros Silverton 2.5-30 tubeless-ready rims paired with Schwalbe Wicked Will 29x2.4" EVO tires — Addix Speed Soft compound front for grip, Speed Grip rear for traction and rolling efficiency. The Syncros cockpit runs a Fraser 1.5 DC alloy bar at 760mm width with 8° of backsweep, a DC 1.5 stem, and Performance XC lock-on grips. The Syncros Duncan Dropper post is 31.6mm diameter, with travel scaled to frame size: 125mm on the S, 140mm on the M, and 150mm on both L and XL.
The Spark 920 TR lands where XC speed and trail capability overlap — fast enough to compete on the climbs, capable enough to hold its own when the trail gets loose or technical. It's not a pure race bike, and it's not an all-mountain build. It's the version of the Spark designed for riders who cover varied terrain and need a bike that transitions between modes without compromise. Available in Grey in four sizes from S through XL, all running 29-inch wheels.
