Rotor PF4624 (EVO386) to 24mm Ceramic Bottom Bracket Info
Installing ceramic bearings as icing on the cake of a high-tech frame equipped with a BB386 EVO bottom bracket standard makes sense. Rotor makes it possible for you to install your favorite 24mm thru-axle crank on such a bike with the PF4624 BB386 EVO to 24mm Ceramic Bottom Bracket.
The shell width of this standard is 86.5mm. The inner diameter of the shell is 46mm. This standard precludes the use of BB30 spindles because the shell is too wide, but it provides the width (and stiffness) that BB86 shells give frames and the stiffness and light weight that BB30 cranks offer.
But you’re not here if you have a BB386 EVO crank. You’re here because you have a 24mm thru-axle crank. Like Rotor’s 3D24. Like all Shimano. Like FSA’s Mega-Exo design. And you’ve got a BB386 EVO standard on your frame.
The kit consists of two cups machined 7075-T6 aluminum cups, each with a bearing with an inner diameter of 24mm, and a cylinder for sealing the design. The bearings are hybrid ceramics, with ceramic balls rolling against steel tracks. Ceramic balls are rounder, harder, and smoother than steel. They roll with less drag, and are more tolerant of adverse conditions.
To get the BB installed, press in one side, the seal, then the other. And just like that, you can put your standard crank on this non-standard, well, unusual standard.
The weight is 111g for the set.
The Rotor PF4624 bottom bracket for converting BB386 EVO bottom brackets to 24mm thru-axles makes sense of a crazy world.
