SeaSucker Cable Anchor Info
One of the best features of SeaSucker bike racks is also its greatest liability. These racks are as easy to remove as they are to install. Super for taking it off a car in a hurry, both for you and potential thieves. This is why SeaSucker worked hard to find a safety solution. It's the SeaSucker Cable Anchor.
They started with 1/16" thick plate of polished stainless steel. They cut a 1 3/8" diameter hole in it. Then they crafted it in two different ways. The Window Model has been bent to hook over the top of a car window, and then the window should be closed into the window frame. The Trunk Model has a bar welded to the edge so that the bar is inside the truck and the anchor tab outside the trunk. In both cases, thieves will have to work pretty hard to get this off.
SeaSucker recommends what they call the "lasso method" with braided steel security cables to secure your bikes to the anchor. The "lasso" is threading one looped end over the other—this can be done with the cable anchor inside or with the lasso looping around a bike frame tube and wheel. If you loop the frame tube, make sure it's an enclosed tube, and on the spoke side of a bike wheel, and then you can lock the other loop to the anchor with a padlock. If you loop the anchor, then you'll need to run the cable through something secure and then lock the other looped end of the cable to the cable itself.
If this is too complicated, another way to is buy two cable anchors and then use the lasso on one anchor and thread the cable through the bikes across the roof or trunk and have a second cable anchor on the other side of the car. It's also a system that will work with other companies bike rack offerings as well.
The SeaSucker Cable Anchor secures your bikes to your car.
