Cervelo S5 Red AXS 1 Bike Info
Cervelo S5 Red AXS 1 Bike is Cervelo's aero road platform built around one job: covering flat and rolling terrain fast without sacrificing handling. The S5's V-stem and bayonet fork have spent years at the front of the professional peloton — Wout van Aert rode this shape to the biggest margin of victory in a modern Tour de France Green Jersey competition, and Simon Yates wore the maglia rosa on it at the Giro. This build pairs the current S5 frame with SRAM's wireless Red AXS drivetrain and Reserve carbon wheels, priced at $14,500.
Cervelo says the latest S5 is more than 6 watts faster than its predecessor and roughly 124 grams lighter, with most of that gain coming from a reworked front end — deeper fork legs and a taller head tube that grow the frontal profile in a way that reduces drag rather than adding it. The bayonet fork itself extends up alongside a widened head tube and blends directly into the down tube, a shape that's carried the S5's identity across multiple generations even as the tube profiles around it evolved. Further back, asymmetric shaping at the seat tube and rear wheel junction picks up additional aero savings, since a meaningful share of a bike's drag comes from how cleanly air moves around that area. This specific build weighs 6.74kg, light for a bike built primarily around aerodynamics rather than climbing weight.
The drivetrain is where this build breaks from a typical two-ring setup. SRAM's Red AXS E1 group runs a single 50t Aero chainring on a Red 1 AXS crank with an integrated power meter, paired with a wide 10-36, 12-speed cassette — there's no front derailleur to shift and no chainring to drop into, which means one fewer moving part in the wind and one less thing to think about mid-sprint. The 10-36 spread still covers real climbing even off a single ring, backed by a SRAM DUB ceramic bottom bracket and Red E1 hydraulic disc brakes on Centerlock rotors. Shifting and braking are both wireless and electronic, so there's no housing routed through the frame to interrupt the aero shaping built into the front end.
Wheels are Reserve 42mm front and 49mm rear carbon rims on DT Swiss 180 hubs, tubeless compatible on 12x100mm and 12x142mm thru-axles. Reserve co-developed its aero wheel lineup with Cervelo specifically around the S5 frame, and the shallower 42/49 depth on this build trades some top-end aero gain for a wheelset that handles crosswinds more predictably than the deeper 57/64 option Cervelo specs on its flagship S5 build. Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR tires in a 700x29 tubeless width round out the rolling stock. Up front, a Cervelo HB19 carbon bar and stem keep this build on a conventional two-piece cockpit rather than the one-piece aero bar used higher in the S5 lineup, which simplifies fit adjustments if reach or stack needs to change after the sale. A Cervelo SP34 carbon seatpost and Fizik Arione R1 Light saddle finish the seated position, and the frame includes Cervelo's front and rear accessory mounts for a computer or light without adding a separate clamp.
Geometry spans six sizes, 48cm to 61cm, with reach growing from 367mm to 409mm across the range — enough spread that most riders can dial in position without needing the fit service Cervelo built around the one-piece cockpit elsewhere in the S5 lineup. This is a bike for a rider chasing speed on flat and rolling roads, someone racing breakaways or time trials disguised as road stages, who wants Cervelo's aero platform and a simplified 1x drivetrain without the fit constraints of an integrated bar. It's available through RA Cycles in Five Black.
