BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Five Bike Info

The BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Five Bike is the entry point into BMC's SLR 01 lineage — and entry point is a relative term. What you're getting is the same Gen 5 01 Pro Carbon frameset, the same Aerocore design, the same ICS Carbon Evo cockpit integration, and the same TCC Race Compliance tuning that defines the entire SLR 01 range. The Five trim brings SRAM Force AXS into the build rather than Red, and BMC's own CR 40 carbon wheels instead of a premium aftermarket set — sensible choices that keep the bike within reach without touching the frame, fork, or cockpit. The platform is uncompromised. The result is one of the most complete race bikes at this price.

The SLR 01 Gen 5 frame is the product of BMC's Impec Lab engineering process, built around a single performance equation: maximum stiffness-to-weight ratio. The 01 Pro Carbon layup is unapologetically stiff — it transfers power with the precision that climbers and criterium riders depend on, and it handles with the sharpness that makes aggressive riding feel natural rather than nervous. At 7.6kg (size 54 with all accessories), the complete bike is genuinely light, and the geometry reinforces that climbing intent: race-oriented, responsive, built to be ridden hard. Aerocore Design extends the performance story beyond weight and stiffness — BMC's integrated carbon bottle cages are engineered to manage airflow over the reshaped downtube and seat tube, and keeping bottles installed actually reduces drag. CFD software and wind tunnel testing shaped every curve. BMC calls it the most aerodynamically advanced climbing bike in their history.

TCC Race Compliance is built into both the frame and fork — BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept at its most performance-focused setting. It's not suspension, and it's not a softer layup. It's a precisely engineered level of compliance that absorbs road buzz and vibration without loosening the bike's handling response or power delivery. On long race days over varied road surfaces, this is the difference between arriving at the final climb with something left and arriving depleted. The ICS Carbon Evo one-piece cockpit closes the loop — fully integrated cable routing, 8° of handlebar flare for stability when the pace turns aggressive, and a 127mm drop with 70mm reach dialed in for a confident, aerodynamic position.

Design Benefits

  1. 01 Pro Carbon at SLR 01 level: The Gen 5 frameset uses BMC's 01 Pro Carbon grade — the same construction philosophy as the top-tier SLR 01 ONE, delivering the stiffness-to-weight ratio that makes this frame competitive with anything in its class. The Five trim doesn't compromise the most important part of the bike.
  2. Aerocore Design for genuine drag reduction: The integrated carbon bottle cages aren't aesthetic — they're aerodynamic tools. Shaped alongside the downtube and seat tube through CFD and wind tunnel testing, they actively manage airflow when bottles are installed. Race with your bottles in. The bike is faster for it.
  3. TCC Race Compliance for sustained performance: Road vibration accumulates over long efforts and erodes power output. BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept at Race level absorbs that energy in the frame and fork without affecting handling precision — a meaningful advantage on punishing roads or in the final kilometers of a hard race.
  4. ICS Carbon Evo cockpit integration: One-piece construction eliminates the flex and weight of conventional bar/stem interfaces. The 8° flare improves control at high speed, and the fully integrated cable routing keeps the front end clean. It's a cockpit that belongs on bikes costing considerably more.
  5. SRAM Force AXS with power meter included: Wireless 2x12 shifting at Force level is precise and reliable, and the included single-sided power meter means you're training and racing with data from the first ride. No additional purchase required.
  6. BMC CR 40 carbon wheels and Pirelli tubeless: The in-house CR 40 wheels are a proper 40mm carbon tubeless platform — not an entry-level fill-in. Paired with Pirelli P Zero Race TLR tires, the rolling package is fast, light, and ready to run tubeless out of the box.

Final Take

The Teammachine SLR 01 Five is what happens when a manufacturer builds the best frame they can and fits it with a drivetrain and component package that doesn't embarrass it. SRAM Force AXS is excellent — electronic, wireless, reliable — and the CR 40 wheels and Pirelli tubeless tires make this a bike you can race on arrival. For riders who want SLR 01 performance without the SLR 01 ONE price, this is the most direct path there.

The RA Perspective

The Teammachine SLR has been one of our best-selling race bikes for years, and the Gen 5 version is the best one yet. When customers ask us what's changed, the short answer is: everything that matters. The Aerocore design, the updated ICS cockpit, the TCC Race tuning — BMC went back and refined each system rather than just updating the graphics and calling it a new generation.

The Five is the build we steer a lot of riders toward. The frame is identical to the ONE — same 01 Pro Carbon layup, same geometry, same Aerocore bottle cage system. You're paying less because of the groupset and wheels, not because BMC cut corners on the part that makes the bike what it is. SRAM Force AXS is a genuinely great groupset. It shifts cleanly, the hydraulic disc brakes are strong and consistent, and the included power meter means you're not adding cost post-purchase to get your training data. We've had customers run Force AXS for seasons without issues.

The CR 40 wheels surprise people. Because they're in-house BMC, riders sometimes assume they're a budget option. They're not — 40mm carbon tubeless is a proper race wheel, and paired with the Pirelli P Zero Race TLR tires, the rolling package is fast and ready to go tubeless from the moment you take delivery.

Fit note: the ICS Carbon Evo cockpit is one-piece, which means bar width and stem length are fixed per size. Check the geometry chart before ordering — swapping the cockpit is possible but adds cost. If you're between sizes or have specific fit requirements, we strongly recommend a bike fit consultation before pulling the trigger. That's a conversation we're happy to have at any of our three locations.
