Quintana Roo

Quintana Roo invented the triathlon bike. In 1989, founder Dan Empfield designed the Superform — the first bicycle built specifically for triathlon, engineered from the aerobars back around how a triathlete actually rides. That same year, Ray Browning rode it to a course record at Ironman New Zealand, and the brand’s direction has never wavered since. More than 35 years later, Quintana Roo remains exclusively focused on triathlon — no road bikes, no gravel — just bikes designed around the specific demands of racing after a swim and before a run.

About Quintana Roo

Dan Empfield founded Quintana Roo in 1987 — and built the triathlon bike category along with it. The brand’s first product was the world’s first wetsuit designed exclusively for triathlon; Empfield sewed early prototypes himself after discovering the right suit could cut seconds per hundred yards in the water. In 1989, he designed the Superform — the first bicycle purpose-built for triathlon, engineered from the aerobars back. That same year, Ray Browning rode it to a course record at Ironman New Zealand. The V-PRi later set the record for the fastest Ironman bike split ever recorded. In February 2025, QR became the Official Bike Supplier of IRONMAN — a fitting milestone for the brand that invented the sport’s most specialized category. Learn more at Quintana Roo’s website.
