Bont Riot Shoe - Standard Info

The Bont Riot Shoe - Standard is a road cycling shoe built around Bont's latest "slide and ride" construction method — a redesigned approach to how the upper and sole work together for a more natural foot hold without sacrificing power transfer. Anatomically shaped throughout, the Riot fits a wide range of foot types and positions itself as the most versatile shoe in Bont's road lineup. At $229.95, it's a serious performance shoe at an accessible price point.

The carbon composite sole is the foundation of the Riot's performance. Bont has lowered the carbon through the mid and forefoot to bring you closer to the pedal, and the 4.8mm stack height is one of the lowest in the industry — that kind of proximity to the axle improves stability, encourages a rounder pedal stroke, and reduces the strain on your knees and ankles over long efforts. Three-hole cleat mounting uses carbon steel t-nut hardware, so cleat installation and adjustment stay precise over thousands of miles without the hardware backing out.

The closure is a dual-dial BOA L6 system — sizes 40 and up feature two dials for independent adjustment across the forefoot and midfoot, while sizes 36–39 run a single dial. Either way, you're dialing in fit in seconds, and every BOA component is backed by the BOA Guarantee for the life of the shoe. The Microfiber upper is lightweight and vented, designed to move heat and moisture out across all-weather conditions. Inside, a honeycomb fabric liner keeps the fit comfortable across a full day in the saddle, and a lightweight EVA insole with curved edges fills out the footbed cleanly without adding bulk.

Design Benefits

  1. Industry-leading 4.8mm stack height keeps you closer to the pedal for improved power delivery, stability, and reduced joint strain on long rides.
  2. Redesigned carbon composite sole with lowered mid and forefoot shaping provides a more natural platform and direct power transfer without the rigidity of a full race carbon sole.
  3. Dual-dial BOA L6 closure (sizes 40+) lets you micro-adjust fit across two zones mid-ride, with a lifetime guarantee on all BOA hardware.
  4. Vented Microfiber upper and honeycomb liner work together to manage heat and airflow, keeping the foot comfortable across a full day on the bike.
  5. Replaceable toe and heel guards extend the life of the shoe — a practical detail that matters when you're clipping in and out at coffee stops all season.

The RA Perspective

We stock the Bont Riot because it's one of the few performance road shoes in this price range that doesn't ask you to make a real compromise. The 4.8mm stack height is the standout spec — most riders don't realize how much that number matters until they've ridden low-stack shoes for a season and then tried to go back. Closer to the pedal means a more stable platform, a rounder stroke, and less stress on the knee over long miles. Bont builds that in here without charging you for it.

The "slide and ride" construction is a bit of a departure from how Bont traditionally built their soles — it's designed to give the shoe more of a natural flex character during the foot's movement while still locking in when you're putting power down. In practice, the Riot feels planted but not punishing. It's not a race-stiff sole like you'd find on the Vaypor, but it's not a soft recreational shoe either. There's real carbon composite in there and it transfers well.

The BOA L6 dial system is reliable. We've been selling BOA-equipped shoes long enough to trust the mechanism, and the lifetime guarantee on the dials means you're not going to be stuck mid-season with a broken closure. Sizes 40 and up get dual dials, which gives you independent forefoot and midfoot adjustment — useful if you have a foot that tends to need a looser forefoot or a snugger heel.

The Riot Standard fits true to size and accommodates a normal-to-slightly-narrow foot well. If you've got a wider forefoot, we carry the Wide version. For anyone looking for a capable road shoe with genuine performance features and no gimmicks, this is where we'd point them.
