HED Emporia GA Pro Disc Brake Tubeless Wheelset Info
The HED Emporia GA Pro Disc Brake Tubeless Wheelset is built around a simple observation from HED's own racing: most gravel riders settle on a 40-45mm tire, and a wide rim is what makes that tire size actually work well. Rather than chasing the deepest, lightest carbon profile, the Emporia GA Pro is an aluminum gravel wheel built to plump up a wide tire, spread the tread out for grip, and hold up to the kind of surfaces that change from smooth dirt to washboard gravel without warning.
The rim is alloy and hooked, with a 25mm internal width and 30mm external width — wide enough to properly support a 40-45mm gravel tire without the tire ballooning or the sidewalls flexing under hard cornering. HED builds these rims in the USA at their Roseville, Minnesota facility, the same shop that's built their wheels since 1984. Minimum recommended tire size is 32mm, which tells you this wheel is tuned specifically for gravel and adventure riding rather than being stretched to also cover narrower road tires.
Hub hardware is HED's own 5-pawl freehub design, running on 6902 stainless bearings, with Sapim Race J-bend spokes lacing the wheel together. The wheel uses a Centerlock disc brake interface and thru-axle spacing throughout — front options run 15x100mm or 12x100mm depending on your fork, and the rear freehub is available in Shimano HG, Shimano Microspline, SRAM XDR, or Campagnolo Ekar, so it can be built to match whatever drivetrain is already on your bike rather than forcing a swap.
This is a tubeless-ready wheelset with the tape already applied at the factory, so setup is mostly a matter of seating tubeless tires and adding sealant rather than doing tape work yourself first. Weight comes in at 735 grams for the front wheel and 875 grams for the rear, a reasonable number for an alloy gravel wheel built to handle real off-road abuse rather than shaving every possible gram.
The Emporia GA Pro sits below HED's carbon gravel wheels — the Stillwater G50 and Lancaster G25 — as the aluminum option for riders who want HED's wide-rim approach without the carbon price tag. It's a solid choice for a gravel rider who's logging real miles on mixed terrain and wants a durable, USA-built wheel that's set up correctly for wide tubeless tires from the start, rather than a race-day wheel built purely to save weight.
