When you start taking your triathlons seriously, one thing you’ll definitely need to upgrade is your hydrating system. The Torpedo Versa 500 comes with a sixteen-layer unidirectional carbon-fiber mount that is available in two different designs: an understated Airflow and an energetic Tribal. Both are made from the same multi-layer, high-quality carbon-fiber, and though the design will be mostly obscured while you have your bottle inserted, those times when you don’t, you can be looking down at whichever graphic you prefer. In any case, the mount’s flexibility stands out as its most useful feature. First, you will attach the super light carbon Torpedo cage to the mount. The cage is cleverly designed to be able to accommodate both the special Torpedo bottle as well as a normal water bottle. The Versa 500 Torpedo bottle has been designed to be aerodynamic and leak-proof. Shaped like a torpedo, hence the name, the Torpedo bottle will cut through the wind easily when it acts as the leading edge of your cockpit. You can access the water using the flexible straw, which will slot neatly under a “dolphin tail” plate on the bottle. The high-flow bite valve will ensure that you are never struggling to suck in the water while you are already riding on the rivet. It is nonetheless leak proof since the sealed breather valve won’t give up any of its water, even if you shake it around. And the viewing window, through which you can tell how low you are on water, is also sealed. That’s pretty important; even if you don’t mind getting splashed with a little water now and again, the stakes get much higher when you are using a sticky energy drink. The last thing you want is any part of that concoction sticking to your fingers, arms, or bars. The bottle holds 26 ounces and is dishwasher safe if placed on the top rack and the dishwasher runs on the normal cycle – not fondue pot cleaning heat levels.

The Torpedo Versa mount has been designed to be able to handle fitting between aero bars ranging in widths between 75 and 150mm, which is quite a spread. Since the mounts are made from carbon fiber, you won’t have to worry about rattling in this no-bounce system. Once you attach the telescoping, multi-position Garmin quarter-turn mount, you can then have immediate access to all your most important data. Having the capability of putting the computer mount in different positions will be hugely important depending on what you are doing throughout your ride. Are you using a normal water bottle on a training ride? Simply angle the computer mount so that it is level with the Torpedo Carbon Mount, and you will easily be able to access your bottle. Do you want to keep it in alignment with your Torpedo Bottle to keep it aero for a race, you can do that too. And it adjusts so easily you can do it on the fly.
