SRAM PC XX1 Eagle Chain Info
Fitting twelve cogs on a cassette body is relatively easy. But the only way to make a twelve-speed cassette actually work was to create a narrower chain. SRAM did this. They were able to achieve the feat with the PC XX1 Eagle Chain. It’s flush, quiet, strong, and can work with cogs as small as ten teeth and as large as 50 teeth. It’s designed to mate with X-Sync 2 chainrings as well.
SRAM had to completely redesign the chain in order to make it work with the reduced spacing of 12 cogs while still fitting on a chainring. A 31-step process was created that results in perfectly smooth radii, no sharp edges, no sharp chamfers, and totally flat plates with flush hollow link. And then they finished the pieces with Hard Chrome technology to further extend the useful life of the chain, and followed it up with a Titanium Nitride coating to drop friction lower than chains which came before and reduce the likelihood of corrosion. SRAM claims it is the quietest, strongest, and most wear-resistant chain in the world. Heady stuff, and a pleasant, if under-appreciated, step up.
Not only does it work incredibly well with the Eagle 1x systems, but it’s the best chain on the market. Better in every way than older chains. One can only hope they let this technology trickle into other applications. They even developed a new PowerLock master link for better locking closure. While it will work with X01 Eagle systems, it, sadly, it’s not reverse-compatible, and will not work with other 11-speed 1x systems.
The SRAM PC XX1 Eagle Chain has all the technology and an awesome finish to drive SRAM Eagle 1x systems.
