Like the rest of the SPD pedal family, these M324 pedals have an adjustable retention system. It's easy enough to set your preferences with a small hex key on the back of the mechanism - soft for easy release or firm for more security. The pedal body is lightweight aluminum and spins around a tough chromoly spindle on a sealed cup and cone bearing system. The chrome plated steel cage is a bit smaller than typical flat BMX style pedals, but there is more than enough room to support soft-soled casual footwear.

The Shimano PD-M324 Pedals come with two-bolt SM-SH51 Single-Release cleats that offer 4° of float to allow some movement in your ankle as you pedal. They are also compatible with the easier-to-release SM-SH56 Multi-Release cleats.
