Scott Speedster 10 Bike Info
The Scott Speedster 10 Bike is Scott's entry point into the Speedster endurance lineup — a double-butted aluminum road bike that arrives with a carbon fork, Shimano 105 12-speed shifting, and hydraulic disc brakes at $1,799.99. It sits at a genuinely useful point in the market: serious enough to satisfy riders who are ready to move past entry-level equipment, practical enough to use as a daily trainer, commuter, or first race bike. The combination of components at this price makes the Speedster 10 one of the more straightforward recommendations in its category.
The 6061 aluminum frame is double-butted and custom-shaped, with tube profiles that transition from flat to tapered sections across the frame. That shaping is functional — it lets Scott tune the stiffness and compliance of the frame at different points without adding weight. Double-butting removes material from the middle of each tube where stress loads are lower, keeping wall thickness where the welds demand it. The result rides more lively than older, single-butted aluminum designs and absorbs road chatter better than a stiff alloy frame would. The fork is Scott's Speedster HMF carbon unit, which keeps the front end light and responsive while damping vibration through the fork legs — a meaningful step up from an all-aluminum setup, and the main reason the front of the bike feels more composed on rough pavement than the frame material alone would suggest. Cable routing runs internally through the frame, keeping the cockpit uncluttered.
Shimano 105 12-Speed Hydraulic Disc
The groupset is the real value argument for the Speedster 10. Shimano 105 R7100 is the current 12-speed generation of 105 — Shimano's benchmark mid-range road groupset — running here with mechanical shifting and hydraulic disc brakes. The R7120 brake/shift levers actuate both the derailleurs and the R7170 hydraulic disc calipers from the same lever body, giving you single-lever control over shifting and braking with no compromise between the two. The cassette spans 11-34 across 12 speeds, providing a wide range that makes climbing manageable while the 50/34 double chainring setup keeps the bike fast on flatter roads. Braking runs through Shimano RT70 160mm rotors front and rear. For riders coming from mechanical disc or rim brake setups, the step up to hydraulic braking is immediately noticeable — better modulation, more consistent performance in wet conditions, and less hand fatigue on long descents.
Components and Tires
Syncros — Scott's house component brand — handles the cockpit and contact points throughout. The Creston 2.0 Compact handlebar paired with the RR2.5 stem creates a clean, integrated-looking front end that positions the rider in a relaxed endurance stance without going so upright that the bike feels sluggish. Syncros Race 24 Disc wheels are a sensible alloy wheelset for the price tier, and the Schwalbe Lugano tires at 700x32 are a smart choice for an endurance bike at this level: wide enough to absorb road vibration and ride comfortably on imperfect pavement, fast-rolling enough that the extra width doesn't hurt on longer road rides. Pedals are not included.
The Speedster 10 is the kind of bike that earns miles without demanding attention. The 105 groupset will run reliably for years of consistent riding; the carbon fork is a genuine quality item rather than a spec-sheet line item; and 700x32 tire clearance keeps options open for mixed surfaces and year-round riding. Whether the goal is structured training, a first season of group rides, or a dependable all-conditions bike that doesn't require a carbon budget, the Scott Speedster 10 delivers on each of those without compromise.
