Quality Wheels Coaster Brake Rear Wheel - 26" Info

Quality Wheels Coaster Brake Rear Wheel - 26" is a straightforward, dealer-grade replacement wheel built for coaster brake bikes — cruisers, comfort bikes, and kids' bikes that rely on a Shimano coaster brake rather than caliper or disc brakes. Quality Wheels is the house wheel brand of Quality Bicycle Products (QBP), the Minnesota-based distributor behind brands like Salsa, Surly, and All-City, and its wheels are built through Handspun, QBP's in-house wheel-building operation.

This wheel is part of Quality Wheels' Value Single Wall Series, built around a single-wall alloy rim with a 20mm internal width — a simple, durable rim profile suited to everyday riding rather than performance use. It's laced with 36 stainless steel spokes in a traditional J-bend pattern, which keeps the wheel easy to true and service at any bike shop. The hub is a Shimano coaster brake unit that engages when you pedal backward, a design most riders know from beach cruisers and single-speed kids' bikes.

The wheel ships with an 18-tooth, 3-prong cog and the small parts needed to complete the drivetrain, along with a 3/8" x 124mm threaded axle for bolt-on installation. It's sized for standard 26" clincher tires (559mm ISO) and set up for a Schrader valve, matching the tube and pump hardware most riders already have on hand.

At $100, this is a functional, no-frills wheel meant to get a coaster brake bike back in service — replacing a bent rim, a worn-out hub, or an original wheel that's reached the end of its life — rather than an upgrade for someone chasing lighter weight or a stiffer ride. It's a fit for cruiser bikes, comfort bikes, and kids' bikes that came from the factory with a coaster brake setup.

The RA Perspective

We like that this wheel is straightforward — single-wall rim, Shimano coaster hub, and hardware that any shop can service without special tools. For a coaster brake bike, that ease of service matters more than aero or weight.

Since it's a single-wall rim, we treat it as a replacement or utility wheel rather than one built to take curbs and heavy loads for years — single-wall rims dent more easily than double-wall builds, though at this price and use case, that's an expected tradeoff. Coaster brakes also mean no hand lever adjustment — stopping power comes purely from pedaling backward, which riders switching over from caliper brakes usually need a session or two to get used to.

We'd put this wheel on a cruiser or kids' bike that needs to get rolling again, not on something ridden hard or loaded down regularly.
