Pinarello X3 105 Di2 Bike Info

The Pinarello X3 105 Di2 Bike is Pinarello's endurance road bike with electronic shifting — built for riders who want all-day riding comfort and genuine Pinarello engineering without the extreme geometry of the Dogma or F-series. Pinarello has been building racing bicycles in Treviso since 1952, and the Pinarello X platform was developed to bring that race-bred construction to a more accessible fit: higher stack, more compliant rear triangle, the same internal cable routing and asymmetric frame engineering found on more expensive Pinarello models. The X3 is the Di2 version of that platform — Shimano 105 Di2 electronic shifting, DT Swiss A1800 wheels, and a fully MOST aero cockpit on a frame that carries Pinarello's Onda fork and Flex Stay technology.

Frame and Key Technologies

The X3 frame is built from TorayCa T700 UD carbon, a fiber grade Pinarello chose for its balance of reactive stiffness and road compliance. The T700 maintains efficient power transfer while absorbing the high-frequency vibration that accumulates over long rides in ways that stiffer, race-oriented carbon doesn't. Internal cable and hose routing runs through the TiCR system, eliminating external housing at the bar, along the frame, and through the rear triangle — leaving a clean front end that suits the integrated MOST cockpit. The X-Series Onda fork is a Pinarello design that has been in production since 2000: the curved carbon blades reduce longitudinal and lateral shock at the front contact point without softening steering precision. The frame uses Pinarello's asymmetric construction throughout — different carbon layup on the drive and non-drive sides to compensate for the uneven forces the chain creates on the right side of the frame. This asymmetric approach is applied across Pinarello's full road lineup and is one of the consistent structural differences between a Pinarello frame and a conventionally symmetric design.

Flex Stays and Endurance+ Geometry

The rear triangle uses Flex Stays — Pinarello's name for a seatstay design that introduces vertical compliance without collapsing lateral stiffness. The stays filter road vibration before it reaches the saddle, reducing the cumulative fatigue on hands and lower back that builds over several hours on rough or imperfect pavement. This is a different approach than simply using a softer frame material — the Flex Stays are shaped to flex where compliance matters while resisting the lateral movement that wastes power. The Endurance+ geometry delivers a notably higher stack than Pinarello's competition platforms. Stack numbers run from 527.5mm on the 43cm frame to 640.4mm on the 60cm, with reach from 341.9mm to 388.1mm — compact dimensions that allow most riders to find a comfortable, sustainable position without stacking the head tube extensively. Nine sizes cover 43 through 60cm, with consistent 415mm chainstays across the range and 35mm tire clearance.

Groupset and Components

Shimano 105 Di2 handles the drivetrain across 12 speeds, with the same electronic architecture — satellite shifters, synchronized shifting, and app-based adjustability — as Ultegra and Dura-Ace Di2. The 105 R7170 hydraulic disc brakes use 2-piston calipers with 160mm rotors front and rear. The crankset runs 50/34 chainrings with an 11-34T cassette — a range suited to sustained climbing and flat-road efficiency without unnecessary gaps. The wheelset is the DT Swiss A1800 at 30mm depth, a disc-specific alloy platform built for reliability over aerodynamic optimization. The cockpit is fully MOST: the Jaguar XA Aero TiCR handlebar and Tiger Aero Alu TiCR stem are designed to integrate directly with the TiCR routing at the head tube, with no external cable guides required. MOST is Pinarello's house component brand, engineered to work with the frame's internal system. Axles are MOST Ultralight Custom at 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear with tool-free removal. The Pinarello Aero seatpost completes the contact points, and the frame uses an Italian-thread bottom bracket shell. Pedals are not included.

Available in Victoria Blue Matte and Impulse Grey Matte across nine sizes, the Pinarello X3 105 Di2 sits at a defined point in Pinarello's road lineup. The X1 105 below it uses T600 carbon and mechanical shifting. The F5 105 Di2 above it shares the T700 carbon but in a competition geometry — lower stack, longer reach, built for race positioning. The X3 is the practical middle: upgraded carbon and electronic drivetrain in the Endurance+ geometry that makes sense for long days. At $5,000, it's a complete Pinarello road bike with current-generation electronics, Pinarello's key frame technologies, and a size range wide enough to find a proper fit.

The RA Perspective

The Pinarello X3 is what we'd recommend to someone who wants a Pinarello but doesn't want to compromise daily ridability for a race position they'll never hold comfortably past two hours. The X series was designed to solve that problem — it carries the Onda fork, the asymmetric construction, the TiCR routing, everything that makes a Pinarello a Pinarello, but with stack numbers that suit how most people actually ride.

The Flex Stays are worth understanding before you dismiss them as marketing language. They don't transform the ride character dramatically, but the rear end is noticeably quieter on rough chip seal and older tarmac compared to a stiffer frame. Over a long ride, that difference adds up — it's the kind of detail that doesn't show up in a short test ride but matters by hour four.

The 105 Di2 groupset is what makes the X3 genuinely compelling at $5,000. Electronic 105 Di2 shifts reliably under any conditions, adjusts via the app without touching a barrel adjuster, and requires almost no maintenance over the life of the bike. On a frame you're putting serious miles on, that low-maintenance aspect is underrated. The DT Swiss A1800 wheels are honest alloy — not flashy, but durable and consistent.

Where we'd push buyers to think carefully: if your typical rides are short, fast, and you want max stiffness with a race-inspired fit, the F5 is the better platform. The X3 is built for a different objective entirely, and within that scope it delivers well.
