Giordana Women's G-Shield Thermal Bib Tight Info

Giordana designed the Giordana Women's G-Shield Thermal Bib Tight to keep women riding through the wet, cold stretch of the year, from fall into winter and back to spring. It is offered in black in sizes XS through 3XL, and it carries protection from rain and wind in the fabric itself.

The cloth is Blizzard, a thermal fabric with a 300-gram fleece lining and an Acqua Zero Eco treatment that Giordana says bonds with the fibers at a nano level as a barrier against wind and water. The practical result, according to the company, is low water absorption: the tights hold less water in heavy rain and stay lighter than untreated fabric, while the garment keeps its breathability even when wet. Composition is 76% nylon and 24% elastane.

Seams get attention here. There is one seam, down the back of each leg, so less stitching is exposed and Giordana says there are fewer paths for cold and water to enter. Internal elastic grippers at the ankles keep the hems from riding up. Two large reflective stripes on the back of the calves help drivers see you in low light.

Up top, the bib is black elastic with woven G-Shield lettering in bright blue. The straps are stretchy, the waist is a straight cut, and a mesh panel in the back supports the bib and holds the chamois in place. That chamois is the Cirro S-W, an aloe vera-infused pad. Made in Italy. Care is a cold machine wash with no bleach or ironing, and hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

For women who ride year-round, the question with a winter tight is usually whether it will handle rain as well as cold. The G-Shield is built for both, with a 300-gram fleece lining for warmth and a water repellent finish that keeps it from soaking up spray from a wet road. We think that makes it most useful in the shoulder seasons and on wet winter days, when a plain thermal tight gets heavy.

The Cirro S-W chamois is the women's version of Giordana's aloe vera-infused pad, and it is held in place by a mesh back panel and stretchy bib straps. The straight-cut waist keeps the fit comfortable when you are folded over on the drops, and the reflective calf stripes are there for low-light commutes and early starts.

The honest tradeoff is that the treatment makes the fabric water repellent, not waterproof. After hours of steady rain it will take on some moisture, so a long wet day may still call for a shell above and shoe covers below. The fleece lining is also on the warm side, which suits cold rides but may feel like too much once temperatures climb. Try it with the layers you actually plan to wear.

It is a good fit for riders who commute or train through fall, winter and spring and want one dependable tight for the wet and cold stretch.
