Giordana Men's FR-C Lyte Winter Jacket Info

The Giordana Men's FR-C Lyte Winter Jacket is a lightweight thermal jacket from Giordana's FR-C line, a collection Giordana says was developed for its Pro Team riders. It is a snug, race-fit jacket intended for training and interval work in cold weather.

Panels that hold heat and let it out

Giordana uses a paneling system to keep the jacket from feeling bulky. The main outer fabric is a 3-layer laminated, water and wind resistant material with an elastic, nano-pore membrane for breathability. The back and underarm panels use 250g Blizzard fabric, an absorbent fleece the brand says disperses heat on demand.

Cuffs, zipper and pockets

The straight-cut cuffs are thermal-welded and sit snug at the wrist to seal out cold. A 2-way zipper with a wind flap lets you adjust ventilation, and three rear pockets have adjustable gussets for secure storage.

How to wear it

Giordana designed the jacket as part of a layering system. It provides the most warmth when worn over a lightweight thermal jersey or base layer. Colors are black, cypress green, sand and stone, in sizes XS through 3XL. It is made in Italy. Wash cold at 30°C, with no bleach or iron, and hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

The FR-C Lyte Winter Jacket takes the usual bulky winter jacket and slims it down. The thinking is straightforward: put weather protection on the parts of the body that face the wind, and use a breathable fleece on the back and underarms to let heat escape when the effort goes up.

That makes it a good match for riders who train through the winter and keep the intensity high. Giordana describes the fit as snug and race-ready, and the three rear pockets with adjustable gussets are a practical detail for carrying layers, food or a phone.

Two tradeoffs follow from the facts. The outer fabric is water and wind resistant, which means it handles mist and spray but is not a waterproof shell, so a steady rain calls for something different. And Giordana says the jacket works best as a piece of a layering system, with a lightweight thermal jersey or base layer underneath. On its own, on a very cold day, it will not carry the whole load. The snug fit also leaves less room for thick layers, so size with that in mind.

For cold interval days and fast winter group rides, it is the kind of jacket that lets you stay warm without feeling wrapped up, and it comes in four colors in sizes XS through 3XL.
