Felt Broam 40 Bike Info
The Felt Broam 40 Bike is Felt's all-road platform — a gravel-capable, commute-ready bike built for riders who want one machine that handles pavement, gravel, and everything between. At $1,799, it pairs a SuperLite aluminum frame with a carbon fiber fork and a component spec oriented toward real-world all-day use rather than any single discipline. If your riding week regularly mixes road miles with dirt detours and the occasional commute, the Broam 40 covers that ground without asking you to compromise.
The frame is Felt's Adventure-series SuperLite aluminum — a butted alloy construction that manages weight without carbon's cost. Felt's geometry on the Broam prioritizes stability across surfaces: head tube angles run 70.5° on the 47 and 51cm, stepping to 71° from 54cm up, and chainstays hold at a consistent 450mm across all six sizes. That consistent rear-end length means the bike handles predictably regardless of size, and the generous stack numbers — 551mm at 47cm, 643mm at 61cm — put you in a position that's upright enough to stay comfortable over long mixed-terrain efforts without feeling slack on the road. Up front, the Felt Gravel-Adventure UHC Performance carbon fork with aluminum steerer reduces vibration transmission from rough surfaces, where an alloy fork would send considerably more road buzz into your hands over the course of a long day.
The drivetrain pairs Shimano Tiagra 4700 STI shifters with Shimano GRX 400 derailleurs. This mix is deliberate and functional — Tiagra 4700's 10-speed cable pull is compatible with GRX 400 actuation geometry, and it gives you road-ergonomic STI levers on a bike that uses gravel-specific drivetrain components. The crankset steps up to a Shimano GRX 600 46/30 double. The 46T front ring handles pavement sections and moderate grades; the 30T is small enough to be genuinely useful on steep gravel climbs or when the bike is loaded with bags. A 10-speed 11-34 cassette extends the rear range further. The overall spread covers the kind of varied days the Broam is designed for without the cost of a dedicated gravel groupset.
The brake setup deserves specific attention. TRP HY/RD calipers are cable-actuated hydraulic disc brakes — they accept a standard mechanical cable pull from the Tiagra STI levers but actuate a hydraulic system at each caliper. The result is hydraulic modulation and stopping power from road-standard shifters, without needing a separate hydraulic lever. At this price point, that's a real functional step up from mechanical disc brakes, which require significantly more lever force and offer less modulation, particularly in wet or muddy conditions. TRP TR-35 centerlock rotors run 160mm at the front and 140mm at the rear.
Tires are Maxxis Refuse 700x40 with Silkworm puncture protection. At 40mm, the Refuse is wide enough to smooth out gravel and hold traction on loose surfaces while still rolling efficiently on pavement — a useful width for mixed-surface riding that doesn't demand you pick one surface and stick to it. Silkworm is Maxxis's reinforced casing for puncture resistance, which matters when you're covering the kind of varied terrain this bike is built for. Devox alloy wheels run Shimano hubs front and rear. The Selle Royal Essenza Gel saddle is shaped for all-day riding comfort, and Felt's VelvetGel bar tape uses a 3M Reflective Base layer — a practical detail for commuters and riders who start or finish in low light conditions.
The Broam 40 comes in six sizes — 47, 51, 54, 56, 58, and 61cm — covering a wide enough range to fit most riders properly. Available in Seaweed. Pedals are not included.
