ENVE Mog Frameset Info

The ENVE Mog Frameset is ENVE's gravel racing platform — a 700c-only design built around 50mm tire clearance, internal cargo storage, and the handling balance that comes from a geometry program developed specifically for gravel rather than adapted from a road frame. ENVE makes the Mog from their M.O.D (ENVE Modulated Optimized Design) carbon, which the Ogden, Utah manufacturer applies across their road, gravel, and mountain product lines. The frame weighs 950 grams in size 56 painted with no hardware — a figure that puts it near the top of the gravel frame category by weight while accommodating tires that most lightweight frames would never clear.

The tire clearance is the first thing to understand about the Mog's design intent. Maximum listed clearance is 700c x 50mm, with geometry optimized around a 42–44mm tire and a minimum recommended size of 36mm. ENVE made a deliberate choice not to include 650b compatibility — the argument being that 700c with 50mm clearance covers every reasonable gravel use case without the wheel-swap complexity or the handling inconsistency that comes from flip chips and alternate wheelsets. The Mog is designed around one wheel size, done properly, rather than hedging across two. For riders who've been running 700x40 on a frame that technically fits it but wasn't designed for it, the difference in handling composure is immediate.

The Cargo Bay is built into the downtube and is one of the more considered storage solutions in the gravel category. Two removable bags sit beneath a flush-fitting Cargo Door, providing 36 cubic inches (0.6 liters) of storage — enough for a tube, CO2, and a folded windbreaker or gilet. The bags are accessible without tools and don't affect the frame's external profile in a way that catches wind or creates a visual departure from a clean build. For racers carrying a minimal kit and adventure riders stashing a layer, it addresses the same problem differently than frame bags that add external volume.

The ENVE IN-Route System handles cable and hose management by routing everything internally through the handlebar and stem, then down through the frame. This reduces external cable runs and the aerodynamic drag they create on a frame that's often pointed into headwinds on exposed gravel terrain. The system is compatible with most major drivetrain options: Shimano mechanical and Di2 (1x and 2x), SRAM mechanical 1x and AXS (1x and 2x), and Campagnolo mechanical 1x. SRAM mechanical 2x and Campagnolo mechanical 2x are not compatible — the Mog requires continuous housing for front derailleur routing. The bottom bracket is T47 threaded, which eliminates press-fit creak while remaining compatible with most modern crank standards.

The frameset includes the ENVE M.O.D carbon fork with 12x100mm thru-axle, flat-mount disc, and 395mm axle-to-crown length. Six frame sizes run from 49cm to 60cm, with three distinct fork rakes (57mm for 49/52, 55mm for 54/56, 53mm for 58/60) to maintain consistent handling character across the size range. The geometry is designed around a solid right chainstay at the bottom bracket — a detail that reduces chainstay width enough to accommodate wider tires while preserving the stiffness the drivetrain side needs. The frameset comes with the ENVE Integrated IS52/IS52 headset, and accepts ENVE's 27.2mm seatposts or their G Series 27.2mm dropper post. Three water bottle mounts plus top tube mounts and fender compatibility round out the practical spec. Available in six colors: Aspen White, Recon Green, Wayfinder Coral, Hollyhock Purple, Topo Green, and Compass Yellow.

The RA Perspective

The Mog is the frameset we reach for when a customer wants a gravel bike that's genuinely built for the category rather than adapted from something else. ENVE makes frames in Ogden — not outsourced — and the Mog shows the kind of detail that comes from engineers who ride the product and iterate based on it. The single right-side solid chainstay at the bottom bracket is a good example: it's a small thing that doesn't show up in marketing copy, but it's the kind of problem-solution detail that separates a purpose-built gravel frame from a wider-clearance road frame.

The Cargo Bay gets mentioned in most conversations, and it should. At 0.6 liters it's not replacing your frame bag on a bikepacking trip, but it replaces your jersey pocket for a tube and CO2 on race day — which means your pockets stay free. The integration is clean enough that you don't notice it when the bags are out. That's harder to do than it looks.

The 700c-only decision is worth talking through with customers who have 650b in their head. The Mog's argument is that 700x50 covers everything from fast hardpack to rowdy singletrack, and that running one wheel size well beats running two mediocrely. That's a real position, not a marketing line — but it does mean customers should go in knowing they're committing to 700c.

The 950g frame weight at size 56 is competitive with dedicated lightweight gravel frames. Paired with ENVE's own finishing kit and a quality gravel groupset, this builds into one of the better performance gravel setups available at any price.
