BMC Teammachine R 01 Two Bike Info

The BMC Teammachine R has been a WorldTour fixture for years — ridden by sprinters, classics specialists, and stage racers who need a road bike that holds nothing back. The current generation was developed alongside Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and the aerodynamic architecture it introduced is not a trim-level feature limited to the flagship. Every frame in the Teammachine R platform shares the same 01 Premium Carbon construction, the same Halo Fork, and the same "Mariana Bottom Bracket." The BMC Teammachine R 01 Two brings all of that to riders at the $13,499 level, pairing the full aero frame system with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 electronics, a factory-integrated 4iiii dual-sided power meter, and BMC's own CR 50 SL carbon tubeless wheels. For a bike at this price, that specification is difficult to fault.

The frame is built from 01 Premium Carbon with Aerocore Design — BMC's designation for the specific layup and structural logic behind the Teammachine R's performance targets. Stiffness is concentrated where a racer needs it: through the bottom bracket shell, along the chainstays, and into the headtube junction. ICS Technology routes all cables internally through the steerer and down tube, emerging only at their endpoints, which keeps the front end aerodynamically clean and visually uncluttered. The Halo Fork is the most immediately distinctive element of the platform: rather than positioning the fork legs close to the tire in the conventional manner, BMC pushed them wide — forming an ultra-wide stance that forces turbulent air outward rather than letting it stall against the down tube. The result is cleaner flow around the most aerodynamically sensitive contact point on the frame. At the bottom bracket, BMC went further than on any previous Teammachine R: the shell sits at its lowest point yet — what they call the Mariana Bottom Bracket, a reference to its record depth — which clears the path for air moving beneath the drivetrain. Both the fork geometry and the BB position are UCI approved. The all-aero carbon seatpost is narrower and more compliant than the previous generation, and it includes an integrated mount for a race number plate. This is a bike designed to be raced on, not just ridden fast.

Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 is the right groupset for this platform. The R9250/R9270 generation brings 2x12 electronic shifting in a package that WorldTour teams have used to win Grand Tours and monuments — and the ST-R9270 lever feel, along with the braking performance of the BR-R9270 hydraulic flat mount calipers, justifies every dollar of its price. Rotors measure 160mm front and rear, giving consistent modulation in any weather. The crankset is the Shimano Dura-Ace R9200, but with a meaningful factory addition: a 4iiii Precision Gen3+ dual-sided power meter built directly into the cranks. Dual-sided power measurement — capturing both left and right leg output independently — is the training and racing standard for serious riders, and speccing it here rather than leaving it as an aftermarket addition is the kind of decision that distinguishes a well-thought-out build from one that looks good on paper. Gearing is 52/36T with an 11-34T cassette, covering everything from high-speed flat racing to extended mountain climbing without requiring a cassette swap. The ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 cockpit was co-developed with the Tudor Pro Cycling Team and ships as a one-piece full carbon assembly — 81mm reach, 135mm drop, 12-degree flare — tuned to the demands of riders who spend time in the drops at race pace. Wheels are BMC's CR 50 SL Carbon: 50mm-deep tubeless-ready carbon clinchers on TXC-812 and TXC-240A Center Lock hubs, rolling on Pirelli P Zero Race TLR 700x28 tubeless tires from the factory. The complete bike weighs 7.3kg at size 54 without pedals.

Design Benefits

  1. Halo Fork — targeted aero at the frame's most turbulent junction. By positioning the fork legs in an ultra-wide stance, BMC redirects turbulent airflow away from the down tube rather than letting it pile up at the fork crown. The result is measurably cleaner airflow through the front of the bike at race speeds — an approach developed through BMC's partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies and carried across the entire Teammachine R platform.
  2. Mariana Bottom Bracket — deepest BB on any BMC road bike. The extra depth cleans up airflow beneath the drivetrain, where a conventional BB shell creates significant aerodynamic drag. UCI approved and implemented without changes to fit or riding position, it's one of those improvements you don't feel directly but whose absence you'd notice on the data sheet.
  3. 4iiii Precision Gen3+ dual-sided power meter included. Dual-sided power measurement is not a feature most bikes at this price include from the factory. Having it spec'd directly into the Dura-Ace crankset means you're not paying separately for a crank swap or aftermarket unit — it ships ready to pair with your head unit and start training with accurate left/right balance data from day one.
  4. ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 cockpit, built with Tudor Pro Cycling Team. The one-piece carbon bar-stem system was developed through real feedback from professional racers. Stiffer, more aerodynamic, and more comfortable than the previous ICS generation, it integrates cleanly with the frame's internal routing and gives the front end a clean race-ready profile without the weight or flex of a conventional bar and stem pairing.

Final Take

The Teammachine R 01 Two sits at exactly the right position in the BMC lineup: it delivers the complete race platform — Halo Fork, Mariana BB, ICS cockpit, full WorldTour-derived aerodynamics — with a Dura-Ace Di2 build that needs nothing added before race day. The factory dual-sided power meter is the detail that makes this build genuinely complete rather than almost-there. If you're looking for a road bike that will compete at the pointy end of your local race scene and train you with the data to get better, the R 01 Two gets it right.

The RA Perspective

The Teammachine R is one of those bikes where the tech story is real — not just marketing. When BMC says they developed it with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, you can see where that collaboration actually landed: the Halo Fork is a genuine aerodynamic decision, not a styling choice, and the Mariana Bottom Bracket is the kind of detail that only shows up when an engineering team is asking the right questions about airflow.

What we notice most on the R 01 Two is how composed it feels at speed. The ICS Aero cockpit is stiff in a way that makes the front end feel planted when you're sprinting or descending — there's no flex or movement that bleeds energy at the worst moment. Combined with the 50mm CR wheels and the tubeless Pirellis, the whole system feels tuned together rather than assembled from separate decisions.

The 4iiii dual-sided power meter is a detail we want to call out, because it matters. At $13,499, most bikes at this level leave power measurement as your problem. BMC specced it in from the factory, and it's a Gen3+ dual-sided unit — not a left-only approximation. That's significant if you're doing any serious training or racing with power targets.

One thing to know: the ICS one-piece cockpit is a commitment. Fit needs to be dialed before the bike is built up, because adjustability is limited once the bars are in. We fit every bike we sell, so this isn't a concern for our customers — but it's worth knowing going in. For riders who know their position, it's a non-issue and the aero gains are worth it.

This is a WorldTour-spec road bike that trains you while it races you. Hard to argue with that combination.
