BMC Kaius 01 One Bike Info
The BMC Kaius 01 One Bike is BMC's purpose-built gravel race machine — engineered from the ground up for speed on loose terrain, not adapted from an endurance road platform. It draws directly from BMC's road race lineage and applies that performance philosophy to gravel: aggressive geometry, an integrated aero cockpit, and a carbon frame tuned specifically for the demands of fast, sustained efforts on unpaved roads. The Kaius isn't trying to be an all-purpose adventure bike. It's a thoroughbred aimed squarely at riders who race.
The frame is built around three BMC technologies that define its character. TCC Race (Tuned Compliance Concept) tunes the carbon layup specifically for gravel racing — stiff where power transfer demands it, with measured compliance at the rear end to take edge off rough terrain without energy loss. ICS (Integrated Cable System) routes all cables and hydraulic lines fully internal, maintaining the aerodynamic profile clean from cockpit to caliper. Aerocore design integrates the bottle cage mounts into the frame's carbon structure — not bolted-on brackets, but cages faired into the downtube profile to maintain aerodynamic continuity at speed. The D-shaped carbon seatpost (15mm offset, 400mm length) contributes additional compliance through its unique cross-section while remaining compatible with BMC's D-Fender accessory system. Frame weight is 910 grams in size 54, with a 400g carbon fork — a combined chassis weight of 1,310 grams.
SRAM Red XPLR eTap AXS 1x13 handles the drivetrain wirelessly with a 42-tooth chainring against an XG-1391 10-46T cassette. The Red-level groupset includes an integrated Quarq power meter in the crankset — a complete race tool, not an optional add-on. The front end is defined by BMC's ICS Carbon Aero one-piece cockpit: 360mm at the hoods, flaring to 420mm at the drops with 12.5° of outward flare. That narrow hood position is a deliberate race signature that tucks your arms in for an aerodynamic upper-body profile. CG 39 SL carbon wheels with a 39mm rim depth and carbon spokes carry the bike on Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H tires in 700x40c, tubeless compatible and ready to run at race pressures.
Design Benefits
- SRAM Red XPLR with Integrated Power Meter Is the Full Top-Tier Package. SRAM's flagship gravel groupset runs a 10-46T cassette with 13-speed range and fully wireless AXS shifting. The integrated Quarq power meter in the Red DUB crankset means race-ready training data is part of the build — not an upgrade to budget for separately. At this price point, having the power meter included changes the value calculation meaningfully. The wireless Red ecosystem also means a clean front end with no cable housing threading through the ICS-routed frame.
- The ICS Carbon Aero Cockpit Is Built for Racing Position. The one-piece ICS cockpit runs 360mm at the hoods — notably narrower than the 38-42cm standard on most gravel bikes — flaring out to 420mm at the drops with 12.5° of outward flare. That narrow hood width is intentional: it positions your arms closer together for an aerodynamic upper-body profile at the speeds where gravel races are won and lost. The 12.5° drop flare gives you control and leverage on rough descents without widening the aero position. It's a purposeful design trade-off, not an oversight.
- TCC Race Carbon and the D-Shape Seatpost Balance Stiffness and Comfort. BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept tunes the carbon layup zone by zone — maximizing lateral stiffness in the BB and head tube areas for power transfer and precise handling, while building in measured vertical compliance at the rear triangle for sustained gravel comfort. The D-shaped seatpost contributes additional damping through its geometry and 400mm of exposed length. The result is a race bike that can be ridden hard for hours without the pure harshness that stiff carbon frames sometimes deliver on rough surfaces.
- CG 39 SL Carbon Wheels Are Matched to the Racing Intent. A 39mm rim depth hits the aerodynamic sweet spot for typical gravel race speeds — deep enough to contribute meaningfully at 25-35 km/h average paces, shallow enough to stay manageable in crosswinds on exposed sections. Carbon spokes reduce weight and dampen road vibration compared to steel. The tubeless-ready hookless rim accepts the stock Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H 40c tires and a range of alternatives up to the 44mm frame maximum.
Final Take
The BMC Kaius 01 One is not trying to be everything. It's a race bike for gravel — demanding, precise, and fast. The narrow ICS cockpit and aggressive geometry ask more of the rider than a relaxed all-road bike would, and the 44mm maximum tire clearance defines where its terrain capability ends. Within its intended purpose, it's a compelling machine: SRAM's best gravel groupset with a power meter included, a sub-1,400g carbon wheelset, and a frame built with the same engineering rigor BMC applies to its WorldTour road bikes. If gravel racing is the goal, the BMC Kaius 01 One is built for exactly that.
