Assos Donzi Glasses Info

The Assos Donzi Glasses are built for high-intensity riding in aggressive racing positions, with a large lens and wraparound coverage designed to stay out of the way when you're in the drops. These are sunglasses for hard efforts in bright conditions, not all-purpose eyewear for changing light.

The single-piece polycarbonate Spektra lens carries a Category 3 tint with a Visible Light Transmission of 12.96 percent, tuned specifically for strong sunlight, and it's built to sharpen colors and clarity while cutting glare off water, sand, or pavement. An oleophobic, water-repellent coating keeps fingerprints, sweat, and road spray from fogging up your vision mid-ride, and the frame and lens are designed to bounce back on impact rather than shatter. The lens delivers 100 percent UV protection on top of all that.

Assos's kraterCooler venting, shaped after the brand's Ellipsis logo, channels airflow across the brow to help prevent fogging during hard efforts, and adjustable nose pads and temples let you dial in a secure fit rather than relying on a single molded shape. The frame is also compatible with Assos's Optical Clip, a separate prescription lens insert that locks into the nosepiece for riders who need corrective lenses. Made in Italy, the Donzi glasses suit road, gravel, and race-day riders who spend most of their time in bright conditions and want a single, purpose-built lens rather than an interchangeable-lens system.

The RA Perspective

We recommend the Donzi to riders who do most of their riding in consistently bright conditions — the Category 3 lens is genuinely dark, and at just under 13 percent light transmission, it's built for strong sun, not overcast mornings or dusk group rides. If your riding schedule includes a lot of variable light, Assos's FotoDynamic photochromic lens option is the better call.

Where the Donzi earns its price is fit and airflow. The adjustable nose pads and temples let you get a genuinely secure fit rather than hoping the frame shape matches your face, and the kraterCooler venting does a good job keeping the lens from fogging on hard climbs when you're breathing heavy into the frame.

One thing worth knowing: this is a single fixed lens, not a swappable-lens system like some competitors offer. If you want to go from bright sun to overcast on the same ride, you're looking at either the Optical Clip for prescription needs or a second pair with a lighter tint, not a quick lens swap.

We'd point racers and hard-training riders who ride mostly in daylight and sun toward the Donzi, and steer riders who need one pair for all conditions toward a photochromic option instead.
