Founded in 1906 by Pietro Dal Molin in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, Wilier Triestina has been a symbol of Italian craftsmanship and cycling passion for over a century. Initially taking over the then little-known English brand Wilier, Pietro began producing safety bicycles during a time when cycling was gaining popularity across Europe and the United States. The company's name, an acronym for "W l’Italia Libera E Redenta" (Long live Italy liberated and redeemed), reflects its deep-rooted patriotism and support for Italian unification.

In the aftermath of World War II, Pietro's son, Mario Dal Molin, revitalized the brand by adding "Triestina" to its name, signifying solidarity with the city of Trieste during a period of political contention. Adopting the halberd of St. Sergius—the emblem of Trieste—as the company logo, Wilier Triestina made a bold statement of national pride. The brand entered professional cycling with its own team, achieving significant victories that elevated its status. Notably, in the 1946 Giro d'Italia, team captain Giordano Cottur, a native of Trieste, secured a celebrated win that underscored the company's patriotic spirit.

The late 1940s marked a golden era for Wilier Triestina. Under the leadership of new team captain Fiorenzo Magni, the company clinched numerous victories, including Magni's overall win in the 1948 Giro d'Italia and back-to-back triumphs at the Tour of Flanders in 1949 and 1950. Despite these successes, the rise of motorization in the 1950s led to challenges, and the company ceased operations in 1952.

The brand was resurrected in 1969 when Lino and Antonio Gastaldello acquired the trademark, breathing new life into Wilier Triestina. They focused on innovation and quality, re-entering professional cycling in 1979 with immediate success, including stage wins in the Giro d'Italia. The 1990s and 2000s saw partnerships with prominent teams and riders like Marco Pantani, who famously rode a yellow Wilier bike to stage victories in the 1997 Tour de France, and Alessandro Ballan, who won the Tour of Flanders in 2007 and the World Road Cycling Championships in 2008.

Today, Wilier Triestina continues to thrive, blending tradition with modern technology. The company remains family-run, with the Gastaldello brothers steering its direction. They've expanded into off-road cycling, sponsoring the Wilier Triestina–Pirelli Factory Team in the MTB circuit, and celebrating achievements like Simone Avondetto's victories in the Italian, European, and World U23 Cross-Country Championships in 2022.

In 2020, a strategic partnership with Pamoja Capital provided new impetus for growth, enabling Wilier Triestina to seize emerging opportunities in green mobility and health-conscious markets. Beyond professional racing, the brand supports adventurers and everyday cyclists, embodying a spirit of passion and dedication that has defined it for over a century.
