Wilier Verticale SLR Frameset Info
The Wilier Verticale SLR is the brand’s lightest bike ever. It improves on the Wilier 0 SLR by reducing overall weight by 9.73 percent across the frame, fork, handlebars, and seatpost. This reduction makes it a better climber than ever, fit for the pro peloton. The Verticale is fast and responsive in addition to its climbing ability. With its refined construction and race-focused design, the Verticale SLR represents the latest evolution in Wilier’s legacy of lightweight racing machines.
The frame of the Verticale SLR is designed with an advanced carbon fiber layup, utilizing three high-end Toray composites. T800, T1100, and M46JB carbon materials optimize stiffness and strength while minimizing weight. Wilier also introduced an asymmetrical fork design, with reinforced sections on the brake caliper side and a new twisted left fork stay. This fork is lighter than ever and improves carbon fiber orientation for better structural integrity and braking efficiency. The rear triangle features a newly shaped dropout that prevents rotation and increases drivetrain reliability while allowing extra clearance between the chain and stays.
The redesigned V Bar monocoque handlebar is a key aerodynamic and ergonomic improvement. Weighing approximately 310 grams, it features a narrower grip at the hoods and a wider flare at the drops for better control during sprints. The bar is available in six size configurations and integrates seamlessly with Wilier’s premium models. The updated brake cable routing increases contact surface area for smoother internal cable passage, reducing drag while maintaining a clean aesthetic. A new lightweight aluminum cyclocomputer mount is fully integrated into the handlebar, secured with two through-holes to further optimize weight savings.
Wilier also refined the seatpost and derailleur mounting system for improved performance and adjustability. The seatpost comes in two setback options of 0 or -15 degrees. They both feature mounting holes for a rear light or race number. The seatpost clamp has been repositioned to fasten diagonally from the bottom, reducing frame weight compared to the Wilier 0 SLR. The front derailleur mount is now repositionable rather than riveted. This allows for multiple chainring configurations, including compact 50-34T and 53-39T setups or oversized options up to 55-56T for professional racing teams.
Despite being a climbing-focused bike, the Verticale SLR offers improved aerodynamic efficiency over its predecessor. Its Drag Area Coefficient is reduced by nearly 2 percent at 50 km/h and up to 4 percent at 70 km/h, translating to time savings every kilometer. The optimized frame geometry and V Bar handlebar contribute to a further reduction in total aerodynamic drag. It creates a 5.7 percent reduction at 50 km/h and 8.7 percent at 70 km/h while allowing riders to maintain a more efficient position. The Verticale SLR is Wilier’s lightest bike yet and one you will see flying up climbs at the highest level of the sport.
