Velocio launched in 2013 with a design-first approach to cycling apparel that set it apart from the category from the start. Founded by Brad Sheehan in New England, the brand built its early reputation on merino wool — using natural fibers where most brands defaulted to synthetics — and a commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing that was rare in cycling at the time. In 2017, Velocio became the first cycling apparel brand to join 1% for the Planet, directing a share of revenue to environmental causes. SRAM acquired Velocio in 2022, and the brand has maintained its independent identity and product direction within that structure.
