Colnago C68 Disc Frameset Info

The Colnago C68 Disc Frameset is the flagship of a C-series lineage that changed the sport. Colnago was the first brand in cycling history to bring carbon frames to the professional peloton, and they did it with the modular C40 — a frame that went on to win Paris-Roubaix, one of the most technically punishing races on the calendar. The C68 carries that tradition forward in a disc-brake format, built around the same modular construction philosophy that Colnago has refined across every iteration of the C-series. The name marks where Colnago stands after decades of continuous frame development and production in Cambiago, Italy, and the frame is assembled, painted, and shipped from the same region where Ernesto Colnago built the brand.

The construction method is what separates the C68 from nearly everything else at this price. Colnago builds the frame from eight individual carbon parts — the same count as the C64 — assembled through precision joints and interlocks. A new production step called banding applies thin carbon strips manually at each joint, which are then hand-filed and polished to a seamless surface. The result is a frame that retains the quality advantages of modular construction — smaller molds, tighter tolerances, more consistent carbon layup on each individual part — while presenting the clean finish of a monocoque. Carbon tubes and joints are produced by an Italian supplier in Pordenone, frames are bonded and built in Cambiago, painting is done by hand with an airbrush in Cascina, and final assembly returns to Cambiago before the frameset ships. In size 48.5, the frame weighs 925g.

The technical package reflects the same level of care. The bottom bracket standard is T47, which uses larger diameter bearings than a traditional threaded shell — Colnago specifies this for reduced rolling friction and better long-term durability. The steerer tube is a larger diameter than the C64's, which increases front-end rigidity and improves steering precision on technical terrain. The CeramicSpeed SLT headset bearings are treated with a surface technology that Colnago says virtually eliminates the need for maintenance over the product's life. Tucked into the headset top cap is an integrated multitool, sized for the adjustments a rider might need mid-ride without carrying a separate tool. Tire clearance runs to 32mm — wide enough to run the tire volume most road riders are moving toward, and compatible with a broad range of wheelsets.

Colnago positioned the C68 Road's geometry close to the V4Rs, their dedicated race frame — reach, stack, and head angle are all comparable. The distinction they draw is in character: the V4Rs is tuned for professional racers with the physical conditioning to use maximum stiffness. The C68 is designed for what Colnago describes as "the perfect balance between enjoyment and performance" — a snappy, responsive road frame that rewards riders who push hard without the V4Rs's uncompromising nature. The carbon fork has been lightened over the C64's, and it pairs with the CeramicSpeed headset system to simplify internal cable routing. This geometry is not an endurance setup; Colnago is direct about that. The C68 is a road racing frame for riders who value Italian craft as much as performance numbers.

The frameset includes the carbon fork, CeramicSpeed SLT headset, and Colnago C68 seatpost. Nine colorways are available. The frame is UCI homologated and legal for sanctioned road racing. Colnago's blockchain registration system records ownership on a secure ledger — useful for warranty claims, theft recovery, and resale verification. Registering within 30 days of purchase extends the standard 2-year warranty to three years. Sizes run 42cm, 45.5cm, 48.5cm, 51cm, 53cm, 55cm, and 57cm — note that Colnago sizes by seat tube length, which doesn't map directly to other manufacturers' sizing, so refer to the geometry chart before ordering.

The RA Perspective

The C68 sits in an interesting position in our lineup. It's Colnago's most aspirational road frameset — the one a serious rider builds their dream machine around — but it's not Colnago's race-optimized frame. That's the V4Rs. The C68 is for a different kind of rider: someone who values seven decades of Italian craft tradition alongside stiffness-to-weight numbers.

We've built up a lot of C68s and the thing that stands out every time is the finishing. The banding process — where Colnago applies carbon strips at the tube joints and then hand-files and polishes them — results in a surface quality that you don't see on mainstream monocoque frames. It's the kind of detail that matters to riders who are going to look at this bike in their living room for the next ten years.

Performance-wise, the C68 is more capable than its heritage positioning might suggest. Colnago puts the geometry in the same territory as the V4Rs — it's not a relaxed sportive frame. On long climbing days or sustained tempo work, the T47 bottom bracket and stiff front end give it a directness that rewards riders who know how to push. It's not quite as demanding as a V4Rs at the limit, but it's never vague.

One thing worth flagging for customers: Colnago's sizing is in centimeters measured by seat tube length, which doesn't correlate cleanly with other brands' sizing conventions. Always go off the geometry chart, not the number. We've sized too many riders on Colnagos to skip that step.

If you want to build a custom C68, we have that option on the site.
