Scott Plasma RC Ultimate Bike Info

Scott Plasma RC Ultimate Bike is Scott's highest-specification triathlon platform — a Race Concept build developed alongside elite athletes and shaped through extensive wind tunnel testing and CFD analysis. The frame and fork are built from Plasma 6 HMX Carbon, Scott's top-tier carbon grade, with every tube profile, junction, and surface transition refined to manage airflow around the rider-bike system as a unified whole. HMX is Scott's highest-modulus carbon designation, used here in both the main triangle and the fork — a stiffness profile that translates directly into efficient power transfer when you're holding a sustained effort in the aero position. Triathlon aerodynamics are a full-system problem: the athlete, cockpit, frame, and wheels all contribute to drag, and the Plasma RC's development addresses each element in relation to the others rather than optimizing the frame in isolation.

The geometry is built for triathlon racing rather than adapted from a road platform. A 75.2-degree seat tube angle — held consistent across all five sizes from XS through XL — places you in a forward, hip-open position that supports sustained power output through long bike legs while keeping the legs available for the run. Stack numbers are low, enabling an aggressive front-end position for athletes with the flexibility and fit to hold it. The Syncros Plasma 6 HMX seatpost with Ritchey WCS clamp provides precise saddle height and setback adjustment. Up front, the Syncros Creston iC TRI integrated triathlon bar — 400mm wide with Syncros E1 carbon extensions — keeps the aero position locked in and the cockpit profile clean from bar to bottom bracket. The 410mm chain stay length is consistent across all sizes, contributing to a predictable, stable handling character whether you're in an XS or an XL.

The drivetrain is fully SRAM Red AXS E1, Scott's choice for the top of the Plasma range. Front and rear derailleurs, crankset, cassette, and chain are all drawn from the same generation of SRAM's flagship electronic groupset. The crankset includes an integrated power meter — a meaningful standard inclusion at this price point, giving athletes a direct reference for effort management across a 112-mile bike leg or a short-course push. Shifting is managed by SRAM eTap AXS Wireless Blips, allowing precise gear changes from the aero position without moving to a brake hood or breaking the tuck. The SRAM Red XG-1290 E1 cassette runs 10-33 across 12 speeds, covering fast flat courses and anything with meaningful elevation. Braking comes from SRAM S900 HRD flat-mount hydraulic disc calipers, S-900 Aero levers, and SRAM Paceline X 160mm rotors — consistent, reliable modulation in dry conditions and wet ones.

The wheelset is Syncros Capital SL Aero carbon, 80mm deep front and rear. This is a dedicated speed setup — 80mm of rim depth performs best on open courses at steady race speeds where crosswind exposure is manageable and the aerodynamic advantage is consistent and sustained. The Syncros SL axle system uses a removable lever for straightforward wheel changes on race morning without a separate tool. Tires are Schwalbe Pro One Aero TL-Easy at 700x28 — tubeless-compatible and paired with Schwalbe Aerothan tubes as a backup option. Aerothan is Schwalbe's TPU-based tube material, lighter than standard butyl and better suited to holding pressure over race duration. The 28mm casing provides enough contact patch to absorb surface variation across varied pavement while maintaining low rolling resistance over distance.

The Syncros Belcarra 1.0 TRI saddle is purpose-designed for the forward, rotated-pelvis position the geometry targets — a meaningful detail when the difference between holding an aero position for three or four hours versus folding out of it early comes down to whether the saddle actually supports that position. Integrated storage and hydration solutions built into the frame architecture keep nutrition accessible without external bags or mounts that would compromise the aerodynamic investment the rest of the build delivers. The Plasma RC Ultimate is available in Chrome Silver across five sizes — XS, S, M, L, and XL. Pedals are not included. For athletes chasing Kona qualification, long-course podiums, or a bike split that builds reserves for the run rather than depleting them, this is the specification to start from.

The RA Perspective

We've handled a lot of high-end triathlon bikes, but the Plasma RC Ultimate makes its intentions clear the moment you put it in a stand. The HMX Carbon frame is visibly purposeful — nothing soft about the tube shapes, nothing decorative about the cockpit integration. This is a bike designed to go fast in one specific direction, and every component choice reflects that.

The SRAM Red AXS E1 build quality is excellent across the board. The Blip shifting system is reliable from the aero extensions, and the integrated power meter removes a post-purchase decision most athletes at this level would make anyway. The 80mm Syncros Capital SL wheels are the most condition-dependent element of the spec — genuinely fast on closed courses and calm days, but they take real focus to manage in crosswinds or on technical sections. Athletes with limited deep-rim experience should log proper miles on these before race day rather than putting them on for the first time at the event.

The Belcarra 1.0 TRI saddle works well for most riders in the forward tri position, but saddle fit is personal regardless of price point. With $15,000 on the line, we'd always recommend a proper bike fit before finalizing the saddle decision — and we can do that for you in-store.

What separates this build from bikes one tier down is the completeness of the package. The frame, wheels, groupset, and cockpit all operate at the same level — there's no weak link to work around after the purchase. For athletes ready to race at this specification, it's a strong foundation.
