Wilier Verticale SLR Dura-Ace Di2 Bike w/Kleos 42 Wheels Info
The Wilier Verticale SLR Dura-Ace Di2 Bike w/Kleos 42 Wheels is the top of Wilier's Verticale line, built around a monocoque carbon frame that Wilier designed to be as light as it can make a race bike. The company has been building bikes in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, since 1906, and the Verticale SLR is its current answer to what a no-compromise road bike should be. Wilier describes it as an all-rounder, light enough for the mountains and stiff enough to handle a hard sprint.
A Frame Built Around Weight
The frame and fork use three grades of Toray carbon: T800, T1100 and M46JB, with a high-modulus fiber in the mix where stiffness matters most. Wilier says the frame weighs 648 grams in size M, and that the frame, fork and seatpost together come to 1,353 grams. That is the number to keep in mind when you look at the rest of the build. Everything else on the bike sits on top of a very light chassis.
Wilier also reworked the details around the frame. The seatpost clamps diagonally from inside the frame triangle, which saves weight at that junction. The front derailleur mount is repositionable rather than riveted in place, so the frame accepts a wider range of chainring sizes. The redesigned rear dropout is UDH compatible and keeps the chain further from the seat stays. Wilier claims an 8 percent better stiffness-to-weight ratio than the bike this one replaces.
The V-Bar Cockpit
The handlebar and stem are a single carbon piece, the Wilier V-Bar. It weighs roughly 310 grams, and the shifter and brake hoses run inside it, so the front end is clean. The shape is unusual. The hood area is narrow, while the drops flare wider than the tops. The narrow hoods are intended for aerodynamics, and the wider drops give you more leverage and stability when you're out of the saddle or sprinting. A Garmin/Wahoo computer mount is built in. The carbon seatpost on this build has a 15mm offset and a rear light mount.
Dura-Ace Di2 and Kleos 42 Wheels
This build uses Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9270 shifters and derailleurs, 12-speed, with a 50/34 R9200 crankset and an 11-30 cassette. The 50/34 and 11-30 pairing is a sensible choice for riders who want to climb as well as race, and electronic shifting means the setup stays crisp through every gear. Braking comes from Dura-Ace R9270 hydraulic disc calipers with Shimano CL900 rotors, 160mm in front and 140mm in the rear.
The wheels are Miche Kleos 42 carbon, a 42mm rim depth that sits between a climbing wheel and a deep aero wheel. They're fitted with Vittoria Corsa Pro 700x28 tires. The Prologo Nago R4 saddle with carbon rails keeps the weight down on top.
Sizes and Colors
The Verticale SLR comes in six sizes, XS through XXL, so riders from small to very tall have a proper fit. Colors are Coral Bloom, Sea Black and Core Black.
This is a bike for riders who want a lightweight Italian race bike with a top-tier electronic groupset and carbon wheels already fitted. It suits fast group rides, road racing and long days in the mountains, and it's ready to ride from day one.
