Colnago C72 La Scala Limited Edition Bike Info
The Colnago C72 La Scala Limited Edition Bike is a numbered, 72-unit run built to mark the launch of the C72 at Teatro alla Scala, Milan's storied opera house. It sits at the top of the C72 lineup, priced at $25,000 and finished as a tribute to the theater that gave the bike its name. Every frame in the run carries its production number on the fork alongside the collaboration logo, so no two riders own quite the same bike.
The C72 frame is built using Colnago's modular carbon construction, a technique the brand has refined since the C40 first proved carbon could win Paris-Roubaix in the early 1990s. Rather than molding the frame as one monocoque piece, Colnago assembles it from seven individual carbon parts, tubes bonded to sculpted lugs at Colnago's Cambiago facility in Italy. Different carbon fiber types are used section by section, letting the builders tune stiffness, vibration absorption, and stability independently rather than accepting whatever a single mold produces. An unpainted 485mm frame weighs 895g. The matching carbon fork uses a 1 1/8" steerer with fully integrated cable routing, keeping the front end clean without hiding the joinery that makes this frame what it is.
La Scala Livery
The La Scala edition's paint draws directly from the opera house it's named for: red, gold, and white applied in layered finishes meant to evoke walking into a theater auditorium. An embossed cloverleaf emblem finished in gold leaf marks the frame, and a refined embossed texture on the seat tube echoes the ornate detailing of La Scala's interior. It's a livery built for a bike that's more collector's piece than daily trainer, though it's built to be ridden as hard as any other C72.
Build Kit
This road bike is built around a full Campagnolo Super Record 13 WRL wireless drivetrain, running 52/36 chainrings and an 11-36 cassette with 160mm front and 140mm rear hydraulic disc rotors. The Colnago CC.02 integrated cockpit combines stem and handlebar into a single carbon piece, and the bike rolls on a special La Scala edition Bora Ultra WTO 45 disc wheelset wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Race TLR tires at 700x28. The saddle is a special edition Prologo Choice carrying the same La Scala branding as the wheels. An integrated cockpit multitool and single bottle cage round out a build that leaves little to source aftermarket. Rider plus equipment weight is limited to 264 lbs.
This is a bike for a rider who wants the C72's lugged, hand-assembled carbon construction and top-tier Campagnolo wireless shifting, and who also wants the story behind the paint. With only 72 examples produced, it's suited to a collector-minded rider who still intends to put miles into it, not shelve it. For a rider chasing the modern C72 platform without the La Scala theming, the standard build offers the same frame technology at a lower price point.
