Wilier Urta Ultimate XX SL Bike w/Power Meter and RockShox SID Flight Attendant Info

The Wilier Urta Ultimate XX SL Bike w/Power Meter and RockShox SID Flight Attendant is the top of the Urta line: a 120mm full-suspension carbon cross-country bike built around SRAM's wireless XX SL T-Type drivetrain and RockShox's automated suspension. Wilier has been building bikes in Bassano del Grappa since 1906, and this Wilier mountain bike is the brand's answer to modern, fast XC racing, where courses have become steeper and more technical and short-travel bikes are expected to descend as well as they climb.

The frame is carbon, listed as Toray M40X, and both ends of the bike carry 120mm of travel. The geometry is where the Urta shows its intent. The head angle is listed at 66.5 degrees in the Technical setting and 65.5 degrees in the Fast setting, which is slack for a cross-country bike and points toward confidence on rough descents. The seat tube angle is 76.8 degrees, a steep number that keeps your weight forward over the cranks on climbs. Chainstays are 433mm across all four sizes, and the 29-inch wheels roll on a size run from S to XL with reach figures of 424, 452, 480 and 505mm. In a medium, that is a 452mm reach with a 597.5mm stack, a stretched but not extreme cockpit that suits a racing position without folding you over the bar.

Suspension that manages itself

Both the RockShox SID Ultimate 35 fork and the SID Ultimate rear shock are Flight Attendant units. The system uses sensors to read the terrain and your pedaling, then switches between open, pedal and locked modes automatically, with no lever to reach for mid-race. On an XC course that alternates between fire-road climbs, rooty singletrack and fast descents, that means the suspension is firm when you are putting out power and open when the trail gets rough, without you taking a hand off the grip. If you prefer to decide for yourself, the system can be overridden from the controller.

XX SL T-Type and a crank-based power meter

The drivetrain is SRAM XX SL Eagle T-Type, with an AXS rear derailleur, a 12-speed XS-1299 cassette spanning 10-52 and a T-Type chain. The XX SL Eagle crankset with a 34-tooth chainring has the power meter built in, so training data and race pacing do not depend on a separate pedal or hub add-on. AXS Rocker controllers handle shifting, and the RockShox Reverb AXS dropper post is wireless as well, which means no shift cables and no dropper cable to route or snag. Braking comes from Shimano XTR M9200 hydraulic discs with MT900 rotors, 180mm up front and 160mm at the rear. It is a mixed-brand build, and a deliberate one: SRAM for shifting, suspension and dropper, Shimano for stopping.

Cockpit, wheels and contact points

Wilier's Urta Max carbon one-piece handlebar and stem combine into a single unit with a -27 degree stem angle, a low, aggressive front end that puts weight over the fork for climbing traction. The Acros AMX-005 headset keeps the steering assembly tidy. Miche K1 RD wheels carry Vittoria Saguaro 29x2.25 tires, a fast-rolling XC pairing for dry and mixed conditions. The Selle San Marco Shortfit 2.0 saddle uses an open, narrow shape, a good fit for riders who spend long stretches seated and pedaling. The bike ships without pedals, so you can fit your preferred clipless system.

The Urta Ultimate XX SL suits riders who race cross-country, or who ride like they do: hard on the climbs, committed on the descents, and interested in the latest wireless parts. It is a specialized tool, not an all-rounder. If your riding leans toward long, gentle trail days, a longer-travel bike will be more forgiving. If you want a lightweight, carbon-framed, power-metered XC bike with its suspension and gearing already sorted, this is the one in Wilier's range built for it.

The RA Perspective

The first thing that stands out about this Urta is how little you have to think about on the trail. Flight Attendant manages the fork and shock, the drivetrain and dropper are wireless, and the power meter is in the crank. For a race bike, that is a lot of decisions made for you.

The geometry is more aggressive than most XC bikes we see. A 65.5 to 66.5 degree head angle with a 76.8 degree seat angle suggests a bike meant to be pushed on technical descents without giving up climbing position. The -27 degree one-piece cockpit is low, which will suit racers and feel stretched to anyone used to a taller front end.

There are tradeoffs worth knowing about. This build runs several batteries across the derailleur, controllers, dropper and the two Flight Attendant units, so you will want a charging routine before race day. At 10-52 with a 34 tooth ring, the gearing is built for speed, and riders who spin out on steep fire roads should look at the range before buying. Pedals are not included.

It is best for a racer, or a rider who treats every ride like one, who wants the current top-end SRAM and RockShox hardware already set up on a carbon frame. For long mellow days we would point you to a longer-travel bike. For a Saturday race or a hard group ride with a lot of climbing and a technical descent at the end, this is the one we would reach for.
