Lake CX219 Shoes Info
The Lake CX219 makes the case that a full carbon sole and a properly engineered fit don't have to cost flagship money. Lake built this shoe as the entry point into their road lineup — and the key word is entry point, not entry level. The CX219 runs on the same CX/TX Competition Last used in Lake's more expensive models: a curved profile with increased toe pitch and heel lift, a tighter heel pocket, and a slightly wider ball girth that allows the foot to expand naturally under sustained pedaling pressure. At $174.99, that's a level of last engineering most brands don't bring to this price range.
The upper is Clarino Microfiber and mesh — lightweight, breathable, and durable enough for regular training use. Carbitex tongue panels run along the lace zone to reduce friction and distribute the BOA closure's tension more evenly across the instep, keeping the fit consistent whether you're grinding a long climb or sprinting a finish. The single BOA L6 dial handles all closure adjustment with precise micro-adjustability — straightforward and reliable, without the dual-zone configuration of Lake's higher-end models. If you want to step up to dual BOA Li2 hardware and a moldable heel counter, the CX238 or CX242 are the next rungs on the Lake ladder. The CX219 is the place to start.
The outsole is Lake's Competition carbon fiber sole — 100% carbon fiber, 3-hole cleat pattern, the same stiffness platform Lake uses throughout their road lineup. There's no flex, no weight penalty, and no compromised power transfer. For a rider moving up from a nylon or composite sole, the difference is immediately noticeable.

Design Benefits
- Full carbon sole under $200 — The Lake Competition carbon fiber outsole delivers the same stiffness platform found in higher-priced Lake models. For riders upgrading from a composite sole, the efficiency gain is real and immediate.
- Competition Last fit — The curved profile with toe pitch, heel lift, and wider ball girth is engineered for high-cadence road riding. This is not a generic last adapted for a lower price point — it's the same geometry Lake uses across their road lineup.
- Carbitex tongue panels — Reduces friction at the BOA adjustment zone and distributes closure tension more evenly across the instep, preventing the pressure concentration that can develop with a standard tongue under a single-dial system.
- Clarino Microfiber and mesh — Breathable combination keeps the foot cooler than leather uppers during warm-weather training, while the microfiber holds its shape and resists stretching over time.
