Lazer Z1 Kineticore Helmet Info

The Lazer Z1 KinetiCore Helmet is built around the same breezy, lightweight silhouette that made the original Z1 a favorite among road riders, now paired with Lazer's KinetiCore rotational impact protection. At 220 grams (size M), it's one of the lighter fully-featured road helmets in its class, and Lazer designed it to hold up across everything from hard road races to rougher gravel days rather than one narrow use case.

Protection comes from KinetiCore, Lazer's built-in system of controlled crumple zones inside the shell that's designed to absorb both direct impact and rotational force in a crash without adding a separate slip-liner. The helmet is certified to CPSC and EN 1078 standards and built from EPS foam, polycarbonate, and nylon. Thirty-three vents route air through the shell, which is where the Z1's reputation for ventilation comes from — Lazer designed the channels to move enough air that the helmet feels close to riding bare-headed on a hot climb.

Fit comes from the Advanced RollSys system, adjusted with a thumb wheel on top of the helmet rather than a rear dial, with vertical adjustment built in and a design that's ponytail friendly. The Z1 also accepts optional accessories — an Aeroshell for improved aerodynamics and a universal LED light for added visibility — so it can flex between a pure road setup and a lower-drag race day config. For road riders who want a helmet that stays light and cool through long days without giving up rotational impact protection, the Z1 KinetiCore covers the range from club rides to race day.

The RA Perspective

The Z1's reputation for ventilation is well earned. With 33 vents and channels designed to actually move air rather than just look like they do, this is one of the coolest helmets we carry for hot-weather climbing — you notice the airflow most on sustained efforts where a warmer helmet starts to feel like a hat.

The RollSys thumb wheel takes a ride or two to get used to if you're coming from a rear dial, but once it clicks it's an easy one-handed adjustment, and the ponytail-friendly design is a real feature, not a marketing line. A few riders have noted the chin strap doesn't adjust as precisely near the jaw as older Lazer models — worth trying on before a long-distance purchase if you have a smaller or larger head shape than average.

At 220 grams, it disappears on your head in a way heavier helmets don't, and the optional Aeroshell and LED light accessories mean you can adapt it for a specific race or commute rather than buying a second helmet.

We'd point road riders here first — especially anyone doing long club rides or hot-weather climbing who wants a light, well-ventilated helmet with real rotational impact protection built in.
