SRAM GX Eagle AXS T-Type Groupset Info

The SRAM GX Eagle AXS T-Type Groupset brings the hangerless Transmission platform to a price point that makes wireless, clutched 12-speed shifting accessible for trail riders who don't want to compromise on performance. At $1,199, it sits in the middle of the Eagle AXS T-Type family — above NX, well below XX and X0 — and delivers the same core architecture that defines the entire Transmission lineup.

The defining feature of the T-Type system is the hangerless interface. The GX Eagle rear derailleur mounts directly to a threaded receiver in the frame, eliminating the derailleur hanger entirely. The result is a stiffer, more precise connection between the frame and drivetrain — and one fewer part to break, bend, or carry as a spare. Paired with the Overload Clutch, which protects the derailleur from impact forces on technical terrain, and Trailside Reset, which lets you re-engage the clutch without removing the rear wheel, the GX Eagle derailleur is engineered around the reality of trail riding rather than the controlled environment of a road.

The XS-1275 10-52T cassette delivers a 520% gear range — comparable to a 2x11 setup — while keeping the drivetrain simple and the weight down. Shifting is handled wirelessly through an AXS POD controller, with the AXS app available for customization and firmware updates. The GX Eagle DUB aluminum crankset is available in 165, 170, and 175mm lengths with a 32T Direct Mount chainring, and the kit includes two composite removable bashguards for rock garden protection. The GX T-Type Flattop chain and X-Sync tooth profile work together to keep the chain seated under load and over rough ground.

Design Benefits

  1. Hangerless Transmission Interface — Direct frame mount eliminates the derailleur hanger for a stiffer, more reliable connection and removes a common trailside failure point.
  2. Overload Clutch with Trailside Reset — The clutch dampens chain slap and protects against impact; Trailside Reset re-engages it without wheel removal, so you're not stopping mid-ride to manage your drivetrain.
  3. 520% Gear Range — The 10-52T cassette spans the full range most trail riders need, from steep technical climbs to fast descents, in a single-ring setup.
  4. AXS Wireless Platform — No cables to route or adjust. The AXS app lets you configure shift behavior and monitor battery status from your phone.

The RA Perspective

GX Eagle AXS T-Type is the groupset we recommend when someone wants the full Transmission experience without paying XX or X0 money. The hangerless mount and Overload Clutch are the same across the entire T-Type lineup — SRAM didn't water those down at the GX level — so you're getting the core of what makes Transmission different from the previous Eagle generation.

What GX gives up relative to X0 or XX is mostly in materials: the crankset is aluminum rather than carbon, and the derailleur construction is a step below. For most trail riders putting in hard days on technical singletrack, that trade is completely reasonable. The shifting performance is crisp, the clutch engagement is reliable, and the 10-52T range handles everything from punchy climbs to open descents.

The thing we always flag is that T-Type requires a T-Type-compatible frame — the hangerless receiver has to be built in. Most new trail and enduro frames are spec'ing it now, but if someone is running an older bike with a standard hanger, this groupset won't work without a frame upgrade. Worth confirming before you pull the trigger.

If you're speccing a new build or upgrading a compatible frame and want wireless Eagle shifting without the top-tier price tag, GX AXS T-Type is the right call. It's where the platform's best features live at a price that makes sense for a working trail bike.
