Colnago G3-X Rival AXS 1X Disc Bike Info
The Colnago G3-X Rival AXS 1X Disc Bike starts from a specific premise: that gravel riding and race mentality aren't at odds. Where much of the gravel category has tilted toward long-haul adventure and cargo carrying, the G3-X takes its engineering cues directly from Colnago's V3Rs road racer — the same V-Series monocoque carbon platform, comparable stiffness targets, and a geometry that remains unmistakably performance-oriented. Colnago has been building race bikes in Cambiago, Italy since 1954, and the G3-X carries that orientation openly. On a mixed-terrain group ride or gravel event, you feel the road bike DNA in every pedal stroke.
The frame is V-Series monocoque carbon, constructed with stiffness comparable to the V3Rs but adapted for off-road demands in specific ways. The fork and rear stays accommodate tires up to 42mm wide — Colnago's intended sweet spot is 40mm — and the frame carries protection where gravel bikes tend to take the most punishment. A plastic mudguard under the bottom bracket shields the carbon from stone strikes, and a second guard on the right chainstay protects against chain damage over extended mileage. Despite that added durability hardware, the frame weighs 900 grams. Through-axles are 12mm in diameter, with 100mm spacing at the fork and 142mm at the rear. Colnago also built in additional mounting points — two on the top tube and two under the down tube — for a second bottle cage or small frame bag when a single cage isn't enough for longer efforts.
The geometry departs from a road position in measured ways. Reach is shortened relative to a comparable road bike to improve control on loose terrain, and the bottom bracket height is adjusted to account for larger tires and rougher surfaces. The riding position is still assertive by gravel standards — riders coming from road racing will find it natural, while those used to a more upright endurance fit may need time to adapt. That's a calibration, not a flaw. The G3-X is designed to go fast, and the geometry reflects that priority consistently across all five sizes.
The carbon seatpost uses a D-shaped cross-section inspired by the teardrop profile of the V3Rs post. That shape provides an aerodynamic silhouette while also giving the post some vertical compliance — enough to take the repetitive buzz out of extended gravel descents without going to a dedicated suspension seatpost. The clamp is fully integrated into the top tube, keeping the rear of the bike clean and making saddle height adjustments easy to dial in. Up front, Deda's Gravel 100 bar and ZERO1 stem provide a matched cockpit, with bar width and stem length both scaled to frame size.
This build runs SRAM's Rival AXS XPLR 1x wireless electronic drivetrain throughout. The Rival eTap AXS shifters operate a single 40-tooth chainring via SRAM's DUB wide-stance crank, and the 12-speed SRAM XG-1251 cassette runs from 10 to 44 teeth. That range is well-suited to gravel terrain — wide enough for steep climbs and fast descents, without a front derailleur adding complexity or dropped-chain risk. SRAM Rival AXS hydraulic disc brakes stop the bike at both ends, running SRAM Paceline Centerlock rotors at 160mm front and 140mm rear. The wheel spec is Fulcrum Rapid Red 900 front and rear — aluminum rims with 24mm depth, 22mm internal channel width, and 2-Way Fit tubeless compatibility. Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H tires in 700x40 fill out the setup, a tubeless-ready gravel compound that balances rolling efficiency with grip across mixed surfaces.
The G3-X is aimed at riders who treat gravel as a performance discipline — mixed-terrain events, gravel fondos, and fast group rides that blend pavement with dirt roads. It delivers the stiffness and responsiveness of a road race bike without giving up the tire clearance and frame protection needed off-road. At $4,849.95, it sits below Colnago's higher-spec gravel builds while retaining the V-Series carbon frame and full wireless electronic shifting that make it a serious machine. For riders who want a capable gravel bike that rides like a Colnago, this is where to start.
