Felt NEXAR FRD Dura-Ace Di2 Bike Info
The Felt NEXAR FRD Dura-Ace Di2 Bike is Felt's complete reimagining of the aero road category — a machine that reaches 6.48kg in a size 54 while delivering verified aerodynamic performance within 4 watts of the fastest aero bikes in the segment. Where the outgoing AR leaned into pure aerodynamics at the expense of weight and fit range, the NEXAR was built around three pillars: aero performance, weight reduction, and fit accessibility. The result is a bike that serious riders can actually use.
The FRD frame starts with Felt's premium 12K Carbon Light layup — T800, T1000, and T1100 grade carbon fibers arranged with optimized ply orientation, reduced overlaps, and thinner low-resin plies throughout. High-load zones at the head tube, bottom bracket shell, and rear triangle receive targeted reinforcement with 30T to 40T modulus fibers. The outcome is an 800g frame in size 54, some 300 grams lighter than the AR it replaces, without sacrificing the torsional stiffness an aero road bike demands. The tube profiles are truncated and shaped to reduce frontal area and wake, with a slimmed head tube targeting the three areas Felt's wind tunnel work identified as the primary drag sources: head tube width, the top tube and down tube junction, and the wake behind the front assembly.
All cabling routes internally through a fully integrated one-piece carbon cockpit that weighs under 300 grams. The bar and stem combination is size-specific — smaller frames run narrower bars with shorter stems, while the largest sizes get proportionally wider and longer setups — so the fit comes dialed from the factory rather than requiring aftermarket adjustments to correct an off-the-shelf bar setup. A zero-offset dedicated carbon seatpost completes the front-to-back integration, made possible by a steeper seat tube angle that places riders in an efficient pedaling position without the extreme saddle setback adjustments that plagued earlier aero platforms.
Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 runs the drivetrain across all twelve gears: ST-R9270 lever bodies, FD-R9250 and RD-R9250 derailleurs, and an FC-R9200 52/36T crankset with a Dura-Ace CS-R9200 11-30T cassette. The FRD build includes an integrated 4iiii non-drive-side power meter spec'd into the crankset — not a bolt-on — so this is a ready-to-train-on machine from the first ride. Shimano Dura-Ace BR-R9270 hydraulic disc brakes work through RT-MT900 Centerlock rotors at 160mm front and 140mm rear. The Vision Metron 45 RS Carbon wheelset comes in at 1,290g on carbon spokes, and Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR tires in 700x28c run tubeless-ready from the box.
Design Benefits
- 6.48kg for a full disc aero road bike with integration and a power meter. This is the number that matters most about the NEXAR FRD. Achieving sub-6.5kg with hydraulic disc brakes, a fully integrated cockpit, and a built-in power meter requires serious carbon engineering — and Felt's wind tunnel data backs it up, showing 5% less drag than the outgoing AR and a position within 4 watts of the fastest aero platform in the segment at 40km/h.
- Premium 12K carbon layup with targeted fiber engineering. The FRD spec uses T800, T1000, and T1100 grade fibers — Felt's highest-grade carbon — with strategic placement of 30T to 40T modulus material at the head tube, bottom bracket, and rear triangle. Reduced ply overlaps and thinner low-resin plies throughout account for the 300g weight savings over the previous generation without thinning the layup where it matters.
- Integrated cockpit done right. The FELT one-piece carbon bar and stem comes in under 300 grams and is matched to each frame size — bar width and stem reach are specified per size rather than applying one cockpit across the range. All cables run fully internally. For most riders, the fit is correct out of the box without aftermarket adjustments.
- Dura-Ace Di2 with a built-in power meter. The 4iiii non-drive-side unit is integrated into the Dura-Ace crankset, not added after the fact. At this price point that's expected — but the execution matters, and having a clean training setup from day one without sourcing a separate power meter is a real advantage. The 11-30T cassette also gives more range than a pure race setup, which makes the bike genuinely usable on varied terrain.
- Seven sizes with fit-forward geometry. Felt extended the NEXAR to seven sizes (45 through 61cm) and revised the geometry relative to the AR: higher stack, shorter reach, and a steeper seat tube angle that works with a zero-offset seatpost. Size-specific crank lengths — 165mm on the two smallest sizes, 167.5mm in the mid range, 170mm for larger — refine the fit further. More riders can get into a correct position on this bike without bike-fitting heroics.
Final Take
The Felt NEXAR FRD Dura-Ace Di2 is the aero road bike Felt has been building toward — a machine where the weight target, aerodynamic performance, and fit range all align without obvious compromise. At $12,599, it competes at the top of the segment with a complete package: Dura-Ace Di2, an integrated power meter, Vision Metron carbon wheels, and Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR tubeless tires mounted and ready. Available in seven sizes from 45 to 61cm in FRD 12K matte finish.
