DMT WKR1 Road Shoe Info

The DMT WKR1 Road Shoe is DMT's Winter Knit cycling shoe, built for wet and cold-weather riding without the bulk of a traditional winter boot. Its double-layer construction pairs an inner Engineered Knit layer, blended from wool and polyester, with a 3-layer stretch softshell exterior finished in a DWR coating for waterproofing. That combination insulates the foot and manages moisture while keeping the shoe low volume and lightweight compared to most cold-weather road shoes on the market.

Fit is controlled by a low-profile BOA® Fit System with a single Li2 dial, tucked under the softshell outer for a clean, precise close. The knit upper flexes with the foot for a secure hold across a range of foot shapes, and a water-resistant zipper with sealed seams keeps moisture from working its way in through the closure. A stretch ankle cuff with silicone grip seals around the ankle to block road spray, while 360-degree reflective accents add visibility on dark winter rides.

Underneath, a composite nylon outsole gives the WKR1 a stable, efficient platform for pedaling without the vents that let cold air and water into a typical summer road shoe. The DMT WKR1 comes in sizes 37 through 48 in Orange, and it's built for road riders who want a shoe they can pull on for cold, wet training rides and winter commutes without switching into a heavier, stiffer winter boot.

The RA Perspective

The WKR1 is one of the lighter winter shoes we carry — a size-45 pair comes in right around 500 grams, which is closer to summer-shoe territory than most cold-weather boots. The knit upper does a lot of the work here: it flexes to fit without needing to size up, which is the usual workaround with bulkier winter boots.

On wet rides, the softshell and sealed seams hold up well. Road spray and light rain stay out, and the stretch ankle cuff does a good job sealing around the cuff of a pair of tights. The composite nylon outsole is stiffer than you'd expect from a shoe this light, so power transfer doesn't suffer for the added warmth.

Where it falls short is deep cold. The insulation is more about blocking wind and wet than trapping heat, so on rides below freezing that stretch past an hour or two, your feet will start to feel it — especially in the toes. Pairing the WKR1 with a heavyweight wool sock closes most of that gap.

We'd reach for these on the wet, 35-to-50-degree days that make up most of a winter training block, rather than the coldest days of the year. For riders who want a winter shoe that still feels like a road shoe underfoot, this is one of the better options we sell.
