DMT KM4 MTB Shoe Info

The DMT KM4 MTB Shoe is DMT's mid-tier cross-country and trail shoe, built with an open-weave mesh upper that keeps things light and breathable without the added cost of the brand's carbon-soled flagship models. DMT has built cycling shoes in Italy for decades, and the KM4 carries that experience into a shoe versatile enough for mountain biking, gravel, or cyclocross rather than being tuned to just one discipline. The mesh fabric flexes with the foot through the pedal stroke rather than fighting it, and its open construction moves air through the shoe on hot, dusty rides where a denser upper would trap heat.

A microfibre tongue lines the opening, making the shoe easier to get on and off — a detail that matters for riders with a higher instep — while reducing friction against the top of the foot and adding a touch of coolness against the skin. Fit is dialed in with a BOA L6 closure, giving you precise, on-the-fly micro-adjustments rather than a fixed lace or velcro strap, which matters when your foot swells slightly a few hours into a long ride and needs a quick tension change without stopping to re-lace.

Underneath, an aerated nylon sole prioritizes ventilation and responsive power transfer over the outright stiffness of a full carbon plate, positioning the KM4 as a comfort-forward option in DMT's lineup rather than a race-stiff one. Adjustable 8mm eyelets let you fine-tune cleat position to match your pedaling style and knee tracking. At 330 grams in a size 42, the KM4 stays light for all-day trail and XC riding without asking you to pay for carbon stiffness you may not need off-road. That positions the KM4 well below DMT's carbon-soled KM0 Evo in price, without giving up the BOA fit system or DMT's build quality. It's backed by DMT's standard 2-year warranty and comes in White and Black across sizes 35 through 46.

The RA Perspective

The nylon sole is the detail worth understanding before you buy. It's not carbon, so you're trading a bit of outright pedaling stiffness for a lighter, more ventilated ride and a price point well under DMT's carbon-soled KM0 Evo. For anyone doing long XC days, gravel rides, or general trail riding rather than racing at the sharp end, that tradeoff usually works in your favor — a stiffer sole matters most when you're putting out max wattage, and most riders spend more time cruising than sprinting.

The open-mesh upper is built for warm-weather riding. It breathes well and dries fast if you get your feet wet crossing a stream or riding through morning dew, but it's not the shoe we'd reach for on a cold, wet winter ride — there's no liner or weatherproofing here, just ventilated mesh doing exactly what it's designed to do.

The BOA L6 dial is a genuine upgrade over a shoe in this price range that relies on velcro straps alone — it lets you make small tension adjustments without stopping, which matters more than it sounds like on a long ride once your feet start to swell slightly.

We'd point the KM4 toward XC and trail riders who want a light, breathable, easily adjustable shoe for three-season riding, and who don't need the extra stiffness of a carbon sole for their riding style.
