Quintana Roo Espada Frameset Info
The Quintana Roo Espada Frameset is a genuine rarity in the triathlon world: a monocoque aero carbon frame built as an exclusive design for RA Cycles, with only 50 units made and sold worldwide. It shares its sleek aero tubing profile with Quintana Roo's Lucero platform, but the Espada isn't just a repaint of an existing model — it was developed as its own design, finished in a distinct White/Black colorway you won't find on any other QR frame.
Quintana Roo built the Espada around the same priorities that define their triathlon lineup: an aero tubing profile shaped for sustained aerodynamic efficiency, race and wind tunnel tested rather than styled to look fast. For a triathlete, that distinction matters more on this bike than almost any other, since a TT or triathlon leg is one long, uninterrupted effort in an aggressive position — there's no draft, no pack to hide in, just you and the wind for however many miles are in front of you. The frameset comes with a matching Quintana Roo aero carbon fork and a carbon aero seatpost, so the core aero package is already dialed before you start adding components.
Because this is a frameset rather than a complete bike, you're building the rest around it to your own spec. It takes a standard 1 1/8" headset, which isn't included, along with a braze-on front derailleur and a 68mm English bottom bracket — straightforward, widely available standards that keep your build options open rather than locking you into proprietary parts. That flexibility is part of the appeal for a rider who already has strong opinions about groupset, cockpit, and wheel choice and wants a distinctive frame to build them around.
The geometry leans into triathlon-specific positioning rather than a repurposed road fit. A 77-degree seat tube angle rotates you forward over the bottom bracket for the hip-forward position triathletes rely on to stay aero while still generating power, paired with a 72.5-degree head tube angle for stable handling at speed. The size S frame measures out to a 505mm top tube, an 85mm head tube, 384mm chain stays, and a 728mm standover height, built around 700c wheels. Size S is the only size currently available, so fit is worth confirming carefully against your own measurements before ordering.
What makes the Espada worth a serious look isn't just the spec sheet — it's the scarcity. A limited-edition aero frame built specifically for RA Cycles, capped at 50 worldwide, isn't something you'll see rolling up to many races. For a triathlete who wants a proven aero platform without riding the same frame as everyone else in transition, and who's comfortable building up their own race bike from a solid set of standard parts, the Espada is a distinctive way to do it.
