About Crank Brothers

Crank Brothers was founded in 1997 by Frank and Charles French out of a garage in Laguna Beach, California. The brand’s first product was the Speed Lever — a better tire tool born from the frustration of a flat on a night ride — and that problem-first philosophy shaped everything that followed. In 2001, the Egg Beater pedal arrived and changed how mountain bikers thought about clipless design: an open lattice body, four-sided entry, and natural mud-shedding capability that made it a benchmark in the category.
