Garmin Edge 1060 Cycling Computer Info

The Garmin Edge 1060 Cycling Computer is Garmin's premium GPS bike computer for riders who want navigation, training guidance and safety features in one device. It adds hands-free voice control through a built-in microphone, along with a built-in speaker for navigation and voice prompts. Garmin rates battery life at up to 20 hours in demanding use and up to 60 hours in battery saver mode. Some training and performance features need a compatible heart rate monitor, a power meter or both.

Navigation and Mapping

The Edge 1060 comes with preloaded bike-specific maps, including worldwide MTB trail data from Trailforks. At high zoom levels it shows small and sometimes hidden roads, which helps in unfamiliar areas. You can build courses on the device with the touchscreen and see road surface type on the map. The Up Ahead feature lets you choose which points of interest to see while following a course, such as cafes, water fountains and restrooms, and it shows how far away each one is. Maps can be added, swapped or updated over Wi-Fi through Map Manager. You can also send a pin from Apple Maps to the Edge for bike-specific navigation. With a compatible smartphone and Garmin Connect, weather radar and wind direction overlays are available in ride.

Training and Performance

Power Guide gives recommended power targets based on real-time stamina, altitude and wind. When you use Power Guide or follow a workout, the Edge also provides fueling guidance based on your fitness, the course and heat and humidity. ClimbPro Ascent Planner shows remaining ascent and grade on every ride, and nearby climbs appear on the map. Garmin Coach offers personalized cycling training plans that adapt to your training, recovery and the demands of the course, and you can include strength workouts. Strava segments appear in real time on the device. A ride readiness menu gives a preride checklist in each profile, showing which sensors are paired and their battery status.

Safety and Connectivity

With your smartphone connected, incident detection sends a message with your location to emergency contacts after an on- or off-road incident. GroupRide adds in-ride messaging, live locations and incident alerts for the riders in your group, and the Edge works with Varia radar and smart lights, which you can control from the device. Garmin Messenger lets you send text and voice messages through a connected phone. The Edge also connects to compatible eBike systems from Bosch and Shimano, can control your phone's music, and can be configured to work with select shifting systems to view battery life and swipe through data pages.

Who It's For

The Edge 1060 suits riders who follow routes and structured training and want to stay connected on long rides. It is a good fit for road cyclists, gravel riders and mountain bikers who want maps, climbing data and power-based pacing in one unit. Hands-free voice control and the built-in speaker make it easier to use on the move.

The RA Perspective

The Edge 1060 is the Garmin we reach for when a customer wants one computer for navigation, training and long days. The headline feature is voice control, with a built-in microphone and speaker. Garmin notes that voice command performance can vary with riding conditions, so we would not count on it in heavy wind or on rough surfaces.

Navigation is where it stands out. The bike-specific maps and the ability to build courses on the device are handy for routes you plan on the fly. Up Ahead is a small feature that matters on long rides, because it shows cafes and water points along your course.

The training tools are strong, but several need a heart rate monitor or power meter to work fully. Power Guide with fueling guidance is aimed at riders who want to pace and fuel an event, and Garmin Coach gives a structured plan. If you only want speed and distance, this is more computer than you need.

Battery life is rated at up to 20 hours in demanding use, with up to 60 hours in battery saver mode. Pair it with a Varia radar and you get a solid safety setup. We would recommend it for riders who use these features on a regular basis. Riders who want the simplest possible computer would be better off with something smaller.
