Bottom Brackets

The bottom bracket category is more complex than any other drivetrain component — not because the part itself is complicated, but because the number of standards in play is. Bottom brackets connect your crankset to your frame, and the combination of frame shell standard (threaded BSA, press-fit BB86, T47, PF30, BBRight) and crankset spindle diameter (Shimano 24mm, SRAM DUB, GXP, 30mm) determines exactly which BB you need. Replacing or upgrading a bottom bracket involves matching three variables: the shell standard on your frame, the spindle diameter of your crankset, and your performance priorities. Common shell standards include the traditional BSA threaded (68mm or 73mm), the Italian threaded format, BB86 and BB92 press-fit, T47 threaded, PF30, and proprietary formats like BBRight and EVO386. Spindle standards span Shimano 24mm, SRAM DUB (30mm), SRAM GXP, and others. The right bottom bracket bridges the two — and getting that match correct matters as much as the bearing quality inside.
