Scott Addict RC Ultimate Frameset Info

The Scott Addict RC Ultimate Frameset is a purpose-built climbing platform and the most technically evolved iteration of the Addict since Scott introduced the name nearly two decades ago as one of the first production carbon road bikes of its era. Every generation has pursued the same idea: remove every gram that doesn't contribute to speed or structural integrity. The current generation takes that further than any previous Addict model, arriving at a 599-gram frame built through a manufacturing process Scott developed specifically for this bike.

The frame uses Scott's HMX-SL carbon — a higher-modulus fiber that is 8.5 percent lighter than the HMX layup found in lower-spec Addict variants. The manufacturing method is the more significant development. Individual carbon layers are wrapped around a preformed core before the assembly goes into the mold. Once cured, the core is removed, leaving a fully hollow structure with no voids, no wrinkles, and wall thicknesses as low as 0.6mm in areas where the engineering permits. The result is a frame with material exactly where the structure demands it and nowhere else — no redundant layers, no excess reinforcement. The frame weighs 599 grams; the matching HMX-SL fork weighs 270 grams. Together, that's 215 grams less than the previous Addict RC Ultimate frameset, a meaningful difference on a platform where every gram has already been scrutinized.

Weight reduction was the primary objective, but Scott's engineers also applied aerodynamic knowledge from the Foil RC program. The head tube is narrower than its predecessor, the downtube is subtly contoured for cleaner airflow, and the seatstays are slimmed — changes Scott attributes to 12 watts of aerodynamic improvement over the previous generation. Geometry was updated alongside: the bottom bracket sits approximately 2mm lower than before for improved stability at speed, reach is extended slightly across sizes (395.2mm in size M), and stack is marginally reduced, bringing the Addict RC's fit closer to current race standards without altering the character that defines the platform. Tire clearance extends to 34mm on 700c wheels, giving builders a meaningful range — from narrow 25mm race rubber to wider setups that add compliance on rough roads without softening the frame's responsiveness. Chainstays are a fixed 410mm across all seven sizes, which keeps rear-end handling consistent regardless of frame size.

The frameset ships with the core components needed to start a build: the Syncros SP-R100-SL seatpost — 10 percent lighter than its predecessor, D-shaped to complement the profiled seat tube — the Acros AIF-1317S headset, Syncros SL Road thru-axles, and a carbon steertube expander with topcap. Drivetrain compatibility requires a braze-on front derailleur and Pressfit BB86 bottom bracket. Builders planning a 1x electronic setup can bypass the front derailleur requirement entirely. The frameset is designed around the Syncros IC-R100-SL integrated cockpit for clean internal cable routing, though standard stem and handlebar combinations are compatible as well. An optional comfort seatpost is available separately, featuring a flex-inducing cutout for additional road damping and a removable integrated rear light — a useful addition for riders who train in low-light conditions.

Seven frame sizes run from XXS through XXL, with the consistent 410mm chainstay across the range keeping handling character uniform across sizes. The Sunbeam Black finish is clean and restrained — a colorway that doesn't compete with the components built around it. At $4,999.99, the Addict RC Ultimate frameset is an investment in Scott's most technically ambitious climbing frame. Competitive climbers, serious racers, and weight-focused riders who want to specify every component will find a platform here that doesn't compromise where lightness and performance converge.

The RA Perspective

The Addict RC Ultimate frameset is one of those products we don't have to talk up — the numbers do the work. A 599-gram frame is a 599-gram frame. What we find ourselves explaining to customers is how Scott actually got there: not by using exotic unobtanium materials, but by rethinking how carbon is laid up at the manufacturing stage. Wrapping layers around a core that gets extracted post-cure means no voids, no compromises, no unnecessary material. It's a cleaner process, and the result is a frame with walls as thin as 0.6mm in targeted zones. That's legitimately impressive engineering, not a marketing claim.

The frameset ships well-specified for $5,000. You're getting the lightweight Syncros SP-R100-SL seatpost, headset, and thru-axles — a complete foundation. What you spend on top of that depends on your goals. The frame is designed for the Syncros IC-R100-SL integrated cockpit, which pairs cleanly with the internal routing, but it works with standard components too. Pressfit BB86 and braze-on front derailleur are worth noting if you're spec'ing a drivetrain — or just go 1x and skip the front mech entirely.

Handling is best described as quick and purposeful. It rewards input on climbs and corners, which is exactly what you'd expect from a 599-gram climbing frame. It's not trying to be an aero bike. The 34mm tire clearance is genuinely useful — the difference between a 28mm and 34mm tire on this frame is noticeable in terms of compliance, and it doesn't slow the bike down the way you might expect.

This is the right build for a racer or serious competitive climber who wants to own the most capable climbing platform available and build it up to their exact spec.
